Welcome to a little tour of our houseboat! When we recently wrote about the Pampas marina where we live, we got a request to show our houseboat a bit more properly. We may have done it once before, but it was a long time ago. So here we are again, taking you on a little digital tour through the different rooms of the houseboat!
Table of contents
Our houseboat
Our houseboat is located in the Pampas marina in Solnaand we have been living here since summer 2013. When we bought the houseboat it was in dire need of renovation and we lifted it up in 2014 and built a brand new upstairs.
The years are passing and we have been living here for quite some time now. We think it's time again to show you how we feel! All photos of the interior are from yesterday except the photos from the living room. It is more or less chaos there right now ... We are currently sleeping on the sofa bed (because the air heating pump in the bedroom is broken) and Peter has brought in his electric bike to work on it. Follow us around!
Halls
When you step aboard, you enter into a tiny Hallway. We've done our best to put a lot of hooks in a small space ...
Kitchen
Directly after the hallway you enter our kitchen. It's much smaller than any kitchen we've had before and we have very few cabinets, but you just have to adapt. The view through the kitchen windows is "to die for", so we never regretted it for a second!
The kitchen is also my (Helena's) workroom. Normally I work on the blog here. Now I am working both with the blog and with my job as a public health scientist. Two computers are set up all day, until it's time for dinner ...
Bathroom
Next to the kitchen and hallway we have our bathroom. It's so small that we can't even fit a shower, but we have shower curtains... and a great view! (We have a film on the window that allows you to see out but not in).
Lower deck - bedroom and exercise room
On the lower deck we have our largest room, where we have a bedroom, training room and wardrobe in one. On a large part of the floor we have training mats, and here we have a TV just to run training programmes. Very practical to be able to exercise at home! (But it is important not to do lunges at the same time against the long side, then the boat will rock, haha.)
We have good spaces for clothes here, with wardrobes, a chest of drawers, an opening "puff" and shelves with baskets.
Boiler room (with utility room and wardrobe)
The boiler room is also located on the lower deck. Once upon a time the boat's engine was located here, but today there is no engine. However, there are things like a sewage pump, boiler and washing machine. We also have a dehumidifier. It is good for keeping moisture away from the boat, but also for drying clothes! The ceiling height in here is ... 165 cm?
Upper deck - living room
If you instead go up from the kitchen, you come to the upper deck, where we have our living room. There is currently much more messy (think bedroom and bicycle workshop in one!), but otherwise it looks much like the pictures ... Here we watch TV and here Peter has his study. Fantastic view from 11 windows!
Deck - patio
Last on this tour of our houseboat is our patio in the bow. Here we have a large table, a barbecue and often our electric bikes. We find it a bit too crowded and are not completely satisfied. Maybe there will be a change in the future. But there is nothing wrong with the view!
How do you live? What would your dream home be like?
Sandra Lifsresor.se says:
Nice to see how you are doing. Clearly jealous of the view. But maybe not the size .... ☺️

Helena says:
The view is the best 🙂 The size is quite ok for the two of us. Actually, it is not so small (about 75 sqm maybe), but e.g. the bathroom is very small and in some places the ceiling height is lower than normal.

Nice to meet you! nice!

Nice that you looked past! 🙂 Would be fun to meet "for real" some day too!

Hi hi hi I can stand up straight in your laundry room...! ? What fun with the tour and how nice you have it!!! I recognise that when you live in a smaller space, you have to be inventive to use every space. Each space also has several tasks, such as living room becomes a workshop. An awning becomes a sewing studio, etc. Here there are pre-sown seeds on the kitchen table and bench in the living room and on the ironing board... ? Here we now live in a small cottage with 3 small rooms and kitchen. The bedroom is still a storage room and we still sleep in the caravan... ?
30 April 2020 - 8:44
Helena says:
Yes, some people can stand up straight in our laundry room! But not us... 😉 Yes, it's all about utilising space! 😉 Hear that you have some projects ahead of you!

What fun to see all the spaces in the boat! You've really made the most of the few square metres! I didn't think you would stay here any longer in such a small house, but now it's seven years! Just to congratulate you on a good choice! Have a nice Valborg! This year we'll make a bonfire in the barbecue and sing the spring songs ourselves.
30 April 2020 - 9:08
Helena says:
We are only two so we can fit 🙂 It is actually around 75 sqm, so not very small, but the square metres are a bit oddly distributed and e.g. the bathroom is very small. But it works! Wishing you a nice Valborg! (Even if nothing is as usual.)

Thanks for the tour of your cool and beautiful home! Guess you got a little cleaned up on the purchase when the post was made 😉.
We have a small apartment of maybe 55 square metres plus 12 square metres of terrace. Two bedrooms (one of which serves as an office), living room, bathroom and independent kitchen. All the rooms (except the living room) we feel are slightly too small. But it's not so bad when you have to clean - think positive 😀.
We enjoy our apartment and know that it is just to close again if you want to go away. Now we are not even allowed to go out right now, so it is very good that we enjoy the apartment now that it is as it is 🙂.
Have a nice Valborg!
30 April 2020 - 9:34
Helena says:
Haha, yes, I had to clean up a bit, but in the living room it was no idea because there was a bicycle workshop there .... so those pictures are old! Normally, I would say that it may not matter so much that it is a little small, if you still spend a lot of time outside, but right now you do not ... But nice that you like it and hope you get more freedom of movement soon. Wishing you a nice Valborg!

Tina says:
Shit how big it is anyway! Very fun to come in and take a look. Next time you can offer coffee too? Thanks for the look!
30 April 2020 - 9:45
Helena says:
We have not so small actually, it is around 75 square metres, but perhaps a little "strangely" distributed square metres and in some parts a little lower ceiling height. But quite excellent for the two of us! Coffee, hehe, then you can probably come by 🙂

How nice to have a tour of FREEDOM, thank you.
The kitchen looked really lovely, and that view, divine. Many smart adaptations in some small areas. A question in the middle of it all too, what happens to the stuff on the bench if the boat starts to "rock a bit"?
Even if the bow is small, what a wonderful patio for a lovely summer day or evening.
30 April 2020 - 9:58
Helena says:
It's very rare that it swings so much that the things on the bench risk falling to the floor, maybe once or twice a year. If it's really stormy, we can put things temporarily in the sink or something like that. It's very rare, so it's not a problem in everyday life.

Nice to get a closer look inside. I think you have really succeeded in getting a great utilisation of the areas you have.
Since 2004, we have our dream home here on the quay, on Söder, in northern Hammarbyhamnen and are surrounded by water and boats. Very central and with nature close by.
A bit like you have, but with solid ground beneath us and a little more living space. As a complement, I could imagine a small house on a headland far out in the Stockholm archipelago. No plot but a rocky promontory.
30 April 2020 - 10:08
Helena says:
You live in super nice surroundings! A house on a headland in the Stockholm archipelago does not sound stupid either 🙂

Hasse says:
A bit curious, is there an engine so that you could theoretically continue with the houseboat, or can it not do that, such as changing cities?
30 April 2020 - 10:21
Helena says:
There is no engine anymore. It was already removed when we bought the houseboat. You can move it, but then you have to tow it.

Great to come back to Freedom! It was so fun to see how life on a houseboat works. We live in a small chain house with a small garden but everything has to be taken care of. Now we have signed up for a newly built three on the fifth floor with occupancy next summer and we hope it will be our dream home, just to lock the door and leave (hopefully we can do it again).

Thanks for the tour, I have been wondering for so long what your accommodation is like. You have the best views and well organised. I imagine you are also rocked to sleep every night=)
Our dream home consists of 3 floors, 225 sqm area and a 300 sqm garden. We don't miss our 5000 sqm garden in Sweden at all.
Happy May Day evening ????

Harregud how cute... that's how you should live now that the kids have moved out, you have it super cool. There is nothing like that on the west coast (at least there was nothing before) what you wonder is how long you can live so wonderfully ... you do not get younger.
Congratulations on the wonderful accommodation

Compact living, although it's still very airy, especially in your "training room". See that you have at least as many shoes as before. Also, I have to admire you for remembering what you have in all the baskets and "drums" with lids. I could never remember that.
Living in a small space has many advantages. You don't accumulate a lot of clutter and it's easy to clean.

I've decided that I've looked in here before. Well, it's cool and you have what you need.
I was out a lot with my late husband in a caravan and it's even smaller, but it's amazing how well you adapt and the spaces, yes there was everything. You had to catalogue. Incredibly cosy.
Thanks for watching, live well and be cosy, hugs!

It's so cool how you break out of the norm. ?? You also have a great time in your small space.
I wouldn't want to live on a boat (I'm quite sensitive to vibrations and sometimes feel bad even when I'm driving a car), but I could definitely go down in square metres. As soon as our sons leave home, I will start nagging my husband that we should sell the villa and move to less. ?

Thanks for the look. Although if you've been around for a while you've seen quite a lot of the boat's interior. You are generous with pictures from home.
I am actually preparing a house viewing post myself. First time ever. 🙂 It's all about coming up with topics when you can't travel.
Just have to fix a little before. 🙂 Some paintings that will go up in the kitchen. And the old refrigerator that still stands in the hallway after the kitchen renovation. Etc. 🙂

Nice to see a bit more. I've probably seen some before, but always fun to see again.
We ourselves live in Torpet på landet, as we say. It is an old croft that has been renovated to modern standards and is no longer in the countryside but in a residential area. The villas have kind of grown up around the croft 🙂 Also very crowded. We will see if we can get a little more spacious accommodation in the future.

So fun to peek into your houseboat 🙂 Have always been curious about what it looks like in all the rooms and different parts of the boat so such a collective post was great fun to read 🙂 .
