Virtual running race, digital remote tourism and single-table restaurant

Travel news is really different these days. Ships and planes carry cargo, while experiences and encounters are more and more digital. For example, how about 'travelling' to the Faroe Islands through a digital 'remote game' where you control a local in the Faroese landscape?

Faroe Islands launch digital remote tourism

Now that you shouldn't be travelling, the Faroe Islands have developed and launched a 'remote tourism tool' so that you can experience the Faroe Islands live, from the comfort of your own home. A local is equipped with a live video camera and can be 'controlled' by viewers, who can control one minute at a time.

If you press "left" the local goes left and if you press "jump" the local jumps. The virtual tour runs once a day and starts every day in new locations, sometimes on foot, sometimes by boat and sometimes by helicopter. The tours will run at least until 25 April and can be found at remote-tourism.com.

Corona-proof one-table restaurant has opened in Värmland, Sweden

Several newspapers report that a corona-safe one-table restaurant has opened in Värmland. The service consists of a table set in a summer meadow and the food is sent in a basket from the kitchen. The restaurant's website, bordforen.com, says: "It is perhaps the only dining room in the world that is completely safe from COVID-19. Of course, travelling here should be done with caution for the time being. But if you happen to pass through Värmland, you will need to eat somewhere. And we offer both open spaces and a three-course meal in the open air."

Reflection of the week

When social distancing is required, the need for digital solutions increases. Perhaps we are taking some steps forward in digital development, now that we sometimes have no alternatives?
