May photo challenge - theme: patterns

It was time for the photo challenge again! In March the theme was vehicles and in April the theme was water. This month's theme is ... patterns! A really exciting and fun, but also challenging theme.

Photo challenge in May

It is the travel blogger Maria's memoirs which organises the photo challenges, and the theme for May is "patterns". It's about all kinds of patterns you can see around you, both natural and man-made.

I found this theme fun, but quite challenging. The hard part for me has been to figure out where I might have seen patterns ... Anyway, here are the results, which I have chosen to divide into striped, chequered, round, hexagonal, floral and more designs.

Marginal

The zebra is a striped animal, the stripes never run out. But there are also many other things around us that are striped. Here are some striped motifs that have stuck to my camera lens.

Bambu

Couscous with vegetables in Morocco
Klippor Nordnorge
Rugged cliffs in northern Norway

Rusted

Where do you find chequered patterns? In all sorts of places, I think. We were most surprised in Doolin in the west of Ireland, where the cliffs have cracked into an almost perfect chequered pattern.

Round

Patterns with round shapes can be found in various places, both in nature and in architecture. For example, we have found round shapes in Gaudi's architecture in Barcelona.

Hexagonal

You might think that hexagonal patterns should be made by a human hand, but that's not necessarily the case. The stone formations Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland are all hexagonal, and completely natural.

Flowery

You see floral patterns from time to time, for example on tiles or textiles. Here are some floral patterns I found in the archive.

Then the flowers themselves are also full of patterns ...

More designs

I found a lot of different patterns in our photos, and many of them don't fit into labels like striped, checked or floral. Here is a selection of other patterns.

Jugendhusen i Riga

Bonus: Mönsterås

We conclude with a bonus picture from the resort. Mönsterås, which we visited with our motorhome in 2009. The picture is included only because of the fitting name of the place, but if you look closely you can probably find some patterns there too.
