Now that we finally have our motorhome in place, it is of course spring cleaning in the motorhome that applies. We have cleaned and swept, but the big project has been to clear the garage/storage space. We plan to get our electric bikes in there.
Spring cleaning in a motorhome
We cleaned the motorhome properly last autumn, and even unscrewed the plastic edges of the rear bed to be able to vacuum everywhere. After a long winter in a large garage, some cleaning was still needed. Among other things, I (Helena) have gone through all the small compartments and drawers in the front of the car and wiped with detergent. Unfortunately, I found some mouse poo both here and there ... Hope it / they are not left!
Our motorhome garage before
Our big project right now is the garage/storage space. We have a large garage in our motorhome, with access from both sides. Many years ago we divided it with a partition in the centre. On one side we have had hangers and drawers for outerwear, clothes, shoes and bags.
On the other side, we have had tools, water hoses, electrical cables, power plant, petrol canister, barbecue and outdoor furniture. This has worked very well over the years, but now we want to bring in our electric bikes. We also realised that we were probably carrying around a few unnecessary gadgets ...
We are clearing the motorhome garage
As for the garage, spring cleaning in a camper van was not enough. Now it was time to demolish the whole building! Peter started by throwing out all the stuff outside the motorhome, and unscrewing the racks for the shelves.
A lot of stuff ended up in the grass outside. Some of this we are saving, but we are also clearing out a lot. For example, we decided to get rid of the vacuum cleaner, the barbecue and a tarpaulin.
Eventually Peter came to the partition wall, which he unscrewed and took out. Of course, we throw this away as well, and it is of course important to get rid of the weight now that we are taking in two whole bikes.
How could we have so much stuff? Now the smoke all that we don't need.
Finally, the garage is empty! In here we will now store our electric bikes, and we will also fix some smaller hanging devices on the wall for tools, electric cables, water hoses and outdoor furniture. We'll tell you (and show you!) how it works soon. Update! We have now published a post showing the results:
Do you have a motorhome? Tell us how you use your motorhome garage!

Never in my life would I have believed that there are
motorhome with garage! You learn a lot through

Good work there, Peter - strengthens the muscles.
And, Helena, I hope you don't find any survivors.

In the garage we have a slide-in/out for the bikes. Convenient. If you want pictures, email me.

Helena says:
Hasse, I think we can manage to lift the bikes in and out, but we have talked about it on occasion. If it works with a tricycle? I'll talk to Peter. Will get back to you in that case. Thank you very much! 🙂

I'm sure you do, the slide we have makes it easy to handle inputs and outputs.

Helena says:
Ruth, yes, we often call it a garage, but it is perhaps more of a storage or stowage space. It is not uncommon to have bicycles there. There are also (extreme cases!) where you can get a whole car into the garage: https://www.freedomtravel.se/2019/09/elmia-2019-husbilar-och-husvagnar-som-sticker-ut/

Really looking forward to seeing how you get your bikes in there. Because P has a monster bike on three wheels, right? (Ha, ha. The spelling programme wanted to write monster ladybirds. Almost a pity that I discovered it).

Helena says:
"Monster ladybugs" haha, yes, you have to go through a lot with those spelling programmes 😉.

We also have our full-sized bikes in the garage, we think it's great! Good luck with the cleaning 🙂

Glad to hear that it works well for you! And thank you! 🙂

At my place, the owners now load item after item. I also have a large garage and I have a better load weight than my predecessor. During winter storage, my owners usually unload everything from the garage, what has not been used during the year goes out.
My predecessor had it as you intended as my owner put up a board in the rear frame and then screwed in hooks etc in this board. Worked well during all the years they had Dethleffsen.

Good to see what you haven't used and clean up! We haven't done it for a long time, but now we're going to do a really good clean-up!

Yes, gosh, you tend to collect things when there is space. It's nice to have it cleared out sometimes. It will be exciting to see what you come up with for inventive solutions.

This spring seems to be the time of the storage room cleanings... You take that step further with rebuilding it too 🙂 It will surely be great! But of course you have a lot of things that you don't need or use 🙂.

It's easy to accumulate more than you need. In a motorhome you have both limited space and limited weight space, so it's good to clean up!

Hello!
Yes, imagine how much unnecessary stuff you drive around with. Have cleaned a number of times over the years. We have our electric bikes in the garage, feels much safer and so you do not expose them to dirt and dust. We have screwed two rails in the floor, which we put the bikes in, then we "lock" them in the wall with so-called squid rubber bands. Super simple and easy to take them out when you want. Good luck to you
19 May 2020 - 10:27
Helena says:
Yes, it will feel good to have them in the garage! The rails sound good. We can't have that because one of them is a tricycle, but we'll at least find a way to secure them.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Vacuum cleaner! Jesus, throw it away! 😀 There are usually vacuum cleaners at petrol stations. Or exchange it for a small miniature model for breadcrumbs, like that. But then you might as well ignore it.
It's exciting to see how you solve the storage space and how you fit things in, it's always a hassle, even at home.
The bikes, they can't be folded in any way, right?
19 May 2020 - 11:21
Helena says:
I think I can take the vacuum cleaner out of the houseboat from time to time and vacuum. In between, it may be enough to sweep. The bikes can't be folded, but we've taken measurements and they will fit 😉.

We have also cleaned the motorhome and I couldn't believe it when I saw how much stuff we had in our garage, except for two folding bikes, golf bags with trolleys and outdoor furniture. I'm sure a lot of it hasn't been used for years and won't be back again!
Good luck with the fix!

It is of course easy to collect.... But it's good to clean up, everything weighs too.

It's a real job you've done, but it's so important. Many people look at the display cabinet before anything else. I usually say that I start looking at the loading possibilities, and if it's not good, I don't get in the car. Of course you have to make room for the bikes, otherwise the trip is lost. Good luck!

We totally agree, the loading possibilities and storage are super important! Thank you very much!

We have made plastic bins for electric cable and one for water hose. good to get everything belonging to this in the same bin. So much unnecessary stuff you have dragged with you over the years.

Yes, in these corona times, most people build / renovate, but then of course it applies to houses and apartments; -) It is a heavenly luck that Peter is so incredibly handy and has experience as a builder / carpenter. I would be completely helpless, I can say.
