Airline routes resume - and many invest in holiday homes

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lifts the travel advice to 10 countries from 30 June, and airlines start to resume flights. Meanwhile, many people are focusing on holidays in Sweden: more domestic cruises, a hot market for holiday homes and summer passes for train trips in Bergslagen.

MFA lifts travel advice for ten countries

From 30 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is lifting the advisory for non-essential travel to ten European countries: Greece, Croatia, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Iceland, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. For other EU, EEA and Schengen countries, the advisory remains in place until 15 July. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends the advisory for non-essential travel abroad for all other countries until 31 August. The decision is not based on the spread of infection, but on circumstances related to quarantine and, for example, the risk of not being able to return home.

After an overwhelming reception of the news that Tallink Silja redirects the flagship Silja Symphony to the Stockholm-Visby route during the summer due to travel restrictions to Finland, the decision has been made to put in additional departures to meet demand. As the interest has also been great from Gotland, it is now also possible for the first time for Gotlanders to cruise from Visby to Stockholm.

Norwegian resumes 13 routes from Arlanda

Norwegian is reopening 76 routes from the first of July. The routes include both domestic and international destinations within Europe. This is a result of increased customer demand and the fact that several other airlines have already resumed flights in Europe. In Sweden, Norwegian is resuming three domestic routes (Luleå, Umeå and Visby) and ten international routes (Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Nice, Chania/Crete, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Split).

More people believe in a hot holiday home market in the wake of the corona crisis

At the beginning of April and again in June, SBAB asked the Swedish population how they assess the development of the holiday home market in 2020. Between the two surveys, the proportion of respondents who said that it would become more popular to rent or own a Swedish holiday home in 2020 increased from 23 to 43 per cent. Statistics from Booli confirm this picture - the supply of holiday homes is unusually low this year. This is where Swedes prefer to have a summer house:

  1. Gotland
  2. Stockholm archipelago
  3. Öland
  4. Österlen
  5. The mountains

Reflection of the week

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will soon lift the advisory from 10 countries in Europe, while many countries are easing their restrictions. If you are travelling to a country where the MFA advises against it, it is important to remember that your insurance may not be valid.
