Camping is perhaps more popular than ever. After an uncertain spring, booking pressure on campsites is high again. What's more, the #vanlife trend continues, with new motorhome companies setting up shop.

More people book campsites after restrictions are eased

More people are booking at campsites now that restrictions have been eased. This is according to TT, which has examined the booking frequency on camping.se, the country's largest website for camping accommodation. In the two weeks before the announcement of free travel in Sweden, the booking frequency was about 50 per cent of a normal year. In the two weeks following the announcement, the booking rate has instead been 25 per cent above the normal year.

Indie Campers have opened a depot in Stockholm.

The international motorhome company Indie Campers, which recently established itself in Sweden, writes in a press release that it has opened its first depot in Stockholm. "The timing of such a launch could rarely have been better!" says Hugo Oliveira, CEO of Indie Campers. Increased interest in motorhome holidays has been widely reported in recent weeks across Europe, and the company says that bookings have skyrocketed during this period.

Maritime Museum opens gently on 30 June

On 30 June, the Maritime History Museum after taking a series of precautionary measures and restricting some activities. To avoid congestion, some activities - the museum ship, the Blubb play area and the Ruskpricken creative workshop - will be closed. The museum will reopen on 30 June with regular opening hours, Tuesday-Sunday 10-17 with free admission.

Adventurer Erik Sander paddles through Sweden on SUP

On 27 June, Erik started his paddling journey on a SUP (standup paddleboard). Erik will travel on water through Sweden's inland, starting in the north at Ritsem and paddling south through the whole country during the summer and autumn. Erik is an adventurer who has multiple sclerosis (MS). He was diagnosed at the age of 24 but has no major symptoms and is an advocate of living life as usual and testing your limits. Over the years, he has undertaken several adventure trips, including longboarding, to raise awareness of MS. You can follow the adventure on Instagram @sandersaventyr.

Viking Line presents the 2020 summer traffic

After an exceptional spring, all of Viking Line's seven vessels will soon be cruising again, with new service arrangements and pandemic-adapted onboard concepts. During July and August, all curious Swedes can enjoy various cruises, such as:

  • Archipelago Cruises with Viking Cinderella 2 July - 15 August, Stockholm-Mariehamn-Stockholm
  • Visby cruises with Viking Cinderella 19 July - 18 August, Stockholm-Mariehamn-Visby-Mariehamn-Stockholm

7 Michelin stars for one of the EU's smallest member states

Slovenia is now included in the red Michelin Guide for the first time. Six restaurants receive one star each, and one restaurant receives two stars. Slovenia has revived a proud gastronomic tradition thanks to a number of talented chefs - not least the self-taught chef Ana Roš. In 2018, Ana Roš was named one of the world's best female chefs for her work at the Hiša Franko restaurant. Two stars for Hiša Franko, located in the mountain village of Kobarid.

Camping, caravanning and #vanlife were on the rise even before the world was hit by COVID-19, but now they are perhaps more popular than ever.
