This summer looks set to be a 'swimming holiday' for much of the Swedish population, although many European countries are cautiously opening up to tourism. Here at home, several companies are investing in digital booking sites for those who want to camp or travel by motorhome.

9 out of 10 stay at home this summer
7,731 ESS Group guests have chosen to respond to a large survey on summer, corona and new travelling habits. Here are some of the results:
- 94 % has not yet finished planning his summer holiday.
- 93 % will not be holidaying abroad this year.
- Over 80% think it will take 3 months or more to return to something more "normal".
- Österlen, Gotland, Öland, Smögen and Marstrand are the best excursion destinations.
Hollistay opens 'Airbnb' for campers
Last year saw the launch of Hollistay, which works like Booking.com for all 2,400 campsites in the Nordic region. Now they are also opening a similar Airbnb for camping, and will be the first in Europe to gather all types of camping guests, campsite owners and private landlords on the same platform.
Now, caravan sites, special destinations, restaurants, golf courses, hostels and individuals with extra space in their yard can also rent out a site to campers all year round. Bookings are made through the Hollistay platform, where anyone is welcome to register as a hirer or camper, free of charge.
Acamp - new digital booking service for motorhome campers
Acamp was born out of two entrepreneurs' frustration with the complicated and time-consuming process of finding and booking motorhome sites in Sweden. This is what Acamp writes in a press release. Co-founder of Acast and Metalcasino and former CEO of Spotify Norden Öjje Holt, together with colleague Paul Berggren, decided to do something about it.
Acamp is a digital service where motorhome campers can book and pay directly for a pitch, while giving landowners the opportunity to rent out pitches for a side income. Acamp will open for landowners in June and for motorhome campers in August, and you can already register your interest at www.acamp.com.
Air Leap inaugurates flights from Visby
On Monday 25 May, Air Leap opened the Bromma and Arlanda routes from Visby. The routes will be operated Monday-Friday and Sunday. Visby-Bromma will be served with two round trips a day. One in the morning and lunch and one afternoon return. This makes it possible for both daytime commuting to Stockholm and to Visby. The line Visby-Arlanda is operated with one return trip a day, lunch and afternoon, Monday-Friday and Sunday according to the traffic obligation.
Green light for many lake fish - marine fish are getting worse
Many marine species are not doing well, with cod in the Skagerrak and Kattegat receiving a red light in the Fish Guide 2020. However, things look brighter for Swedish inland water species. Fish such as whitefish, char, perch and trout are given a green light. This is according to WWF's consumer guide for fish and seafood, released on 28 May. The Fish Guide, WWF's consumer guide to seafood, helps consumers, shops and restaurants to make more sustainable choices. The guide is available digitally and via app.
Reflection of the week
Motorhome holidays are perhaps more popular than ever, and now everyone seems to want to invest in the motorhome industry and digital solutions for it.

That sounds like a great memory! Yes, even though Europe is starting to open up, there is still a lot of uncertainty. And I think a lot of Swedes have decided to go on holiday in Sweden this year.

"Österlen, Gotland, Öland, Smögen and Marstrand are the best destinations." - wonderful to hear, because in that case the mountains may not be as crowded as I feared. 🙂

Our country is elongated as you know, so we have to try to distribute ourselves 🙂 (Then it depends on the recommendations, if they continue to recommend a maximum of two hours, for example, we have difficulty getting to the mountains ;)).

It will be good to be able to get to Gotland by plane. Then you can get there within two hours. Likewise to the mountains by plane. Not everyone has a car, so the aeroplane will be a good complement. As far as recommendations are concerned, that's just it. And as long as you can decide for yourself, it seems that many people take much longer trips but expect to get "home" if they get sick.
Maybe there will be new recommendations during the day today. We are very fond of the High Coast so maybe it will be a turn there. Think the congestion will be less there. Large areas are available.
But surely there will be an upswing for campsites and that is good. But I was just wondering about the common areas and the hygiene there.
Personally, I'll probably be camping in hotels this summer.

Flights are of course convenient! When it comes to the recommendation, however, I understand that it is about 1-2 hours by car or similar, and that you should avoid public transport. But just as you say, it is a recommendation. And it is possible that it will change soon. When it comes to camping, you are absolutely right. For it to work without major risks of spreading infection, you have to be careful, of course. I would probably avoid communal areas as much as possible. You have a toilet and shower in your motorhome, so you don't have to use the communal facilities.

We can understand why the 94% hasn't finished planning its holiday. It's not easy to plan anything when we don't know what to expect.
We think the camping sector will grow even more and have fun with new ways of booking and renting places.
