How do you go about washing a motorhome in Stockholm, unless you happen to have a plot of land or your own driveway? We have used the campervan a lot this summer and sometimes it needs to be washed. Fortunately, we have found a place where we have room to wash it.

Time to wash your motorhome
Our motorhome has been on an adventure this summer. First we did a long trip in Sweden, and then a trip through Poland and the Czech Republic. No wonder it needs to be washed in the end! But where can you find a car wash in Stockholm?
How do you wash a motorhome?
Washing a motorhome is not the same as washing a car. The motorhome may be assembled and bonded with agents that do not withstand the strong solvents developed for cars. You should also bear in mind that there are ventilation grilles, windows and hatches that may not withstand pressure washing or other hard water jets.
You can rinse the car, gently, and then clean with a brush or sponge. You can use a pressure washer, but you have to be careful not to get too close and avoid grilles and the like. You should also be careful not to scratch the windows, for example with a brush. The best option is to use cleaning products designed for motorhomes and caravans, which can be found in camping shops.
Where do you wash your motorhome?
I'm sure there are some people who wash their motorhome on the driveway, but this is not recommended because the cleaning agents (chemicals) are not good for the environment. And if, like us, you have your motorhome in a car park next to other cars, with no access to water nearby, it's not even possible. Of course, sometimes you can take advantage of a campsite that has the possibility to wash your motorhome.
But what about all the other times, when we are at home and want to wash a motorhome in Stockholm? A regular car wash might work if you have a lower motorhome, but if you have a big and tall motorhome it's more difficult. Our motorhome is 3.10 metres high so we can't get into a regular car wash.
Motorhome washing in Stockholm
We have found a car wash in Stockholm that is high enough for us to drive in. The car wash belongs to OKQ8 and is located at the shopping centre. Port 73 in Haninge, south of Stockholm.
The wash bays here are 3.55 metres high, so we can get in without any problems. One of the sites also has a ladder at the side so you can wash the motorhome higher up. Just this time, that site was occupied when we arrived so we took another, but otherwise that site is of course the best.
Washing a motorhome in Stockholm
We use the pressure washer, but are careful. Then we used the brush. For the car to be really clean we probably need to polish a little longer, but it was at least much better!
As a motorhome owner, how and where do you usually wash your motorhome? Do you have any other tips on where to wash a motorhome in Stockholm?

Hadn't thought about it... Not only narrow alleys are problematic when you have a motorhome 😉 .
Have a nice Sunday!

Hello!!! I've just bought a campervan and am upset that you are encouraging people to wash their car on the driveway if they can. As far as I know, it is not legal to wash either a regular car or a motorhome on the driveway for environmental reasons. You should rewrite that entry. Otherwise, you have a nice blog.

Hello Ann-Sofie and thank you for your wise comment! I agree that we were unclear that it is inappropriate for environmental reasons to wash the motorhome on the driveway (although we did not directly encourage it, but only noted that some people probably do it). My understanding is that it is not illegal, but inappropriate for environmental reasons. We have now clarified this! Thanks again for your comment! We try to maintain good quality content on the blog, but sometimes we miss. However, we take it to heart and improve when we can. Glad to hear that you appreciate our blog in general. Welcome back!

Nonsense! If there is a stormwater well, it goes through the treatment plant! The shit on the car comes from the "environment", and detergent in your washing machine is 100 times stronger than car shampoo! So tired of all environmentalists who are not in touch with reality

Lasse hires a car wash with a ramp outside Kungsängen along the old road to Bro. You may google, do not remember what it is called. Possibly closer there than to Haninge. ??

I wash on my own driveway almost every time we've been out, then I drive the motorhome into the carport that I built for the purpose. This way I keep the motorhome fresh with minimal work!

Sounds practical and good!

We have our own driveway but never wash at home for environmental reasons. We realise that many people find it practical, but we believe that concern for the environment is more important.
We have washed at Dammarsberg in Sollentuna. A large, solid hall. Now our car is lower than yours, but there was plenty of room. Do not remember the price, but not outrageous. High pressure is available otherwise you bring everything yourself. We can recommend!

There are two places on the outskirts of Värmdö, in Nacka and Mölnvik (Autospa) that have good altitude, where they have high pressure.

Thanks for the tips! There seems to be a few different places to choose from anyway, interesting!

There is also one in Tumba that is similar to the one in Haninge and one in läggesta and Nyköping, but the one in Tumba and läggesta has the possibility to drive through if you have a caravan to wash.

OKQ8 Kungsängen has 4 seats with high ceilings (think it's 3.55m).

One of the sites has a ramp so you can access a little higher up.
OKQ8 in Åkersberga has a similar facility...
Seems to be some kind of "standard" with a slightly higher ceiling height and a ramp when they build new ones. All honour to OKQ8.

In most municipalities it is illegal to use chemicals. However, you can simply rinse off with water.

Hi Berit! Thank you for your comment! I don't really understand? We have written that it is not appropriate for environmental reasons to wash on the driveway. But of course it is possible to rinse with just water, if you don't use chemicals, and you are of course right about that. Is that what you think we should clarify? I will add a word about chemicals and hopefully it will be even clearer. If I misunderstood, please explain what you mean!

Hi! Do you know what type of agent is used in the OKQ8 car wash facilities? For example, is it an alkaline degreaser? If they are petroleum-based products, they are probably not recommended for motorhomes. But otherwise it seems really easy to wash the car at such a place.

Hi! Trying here and see if anyone knows and can answer... I am looking for a laundry hall in Stockholm County for my Laika, which is 2.90 m high. I thus want to wash myself with my own means (Abnet) and access the roof of the motorhome myself, ie high ramps at the side and the possibility of regulating the water pressure 🙂 Perhaps high demands but I am very afraid of our beloved motorhome ❤️.
