TUI launches new flight routes to Sälen
Skistar reports increased demand for skiing holidays this year, with a 10 per cent increase in bookings compared to the same period last year. At the same time, TUI is initiating a long-term effort to broaden its range from sun and bathing to now also include skiing holidays. TUI has therefore decided to enter into a partnership with Scandinavian Mountains Airport and open seven new flight routes to Sälenfjällen, starting in December. The new flights will run from Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Växjö, Norrköping, Ängelholm and Copenhagen.
Petition in support of the group travel industry
On the campaign site StöttaGruppresor.se, Rolfs Flyg & Buss wants to highlight group travel in the debate. During the ongoing pandemic, they feel that the industry is forgotten, and that the debate instead focuses on other parts of the travel industry. With the petition, the company highlights the traveller himself, who is given space to share how group travel plays an important role in his life. In the first hour of the campaign, more than 3,000 travellers got involved, showing their support and sharing their thoughts on why group travel is important to them.
Ving introduces 7-day money-back guarantee and better cancellation and rebooking conditions
Last Saturday, 24 October, Ving's first flight to the Canary Islands for the winter season took off. As the only Swedish tour operator, Ving can now guarantee that customers who cancel or have a trip cancelled will get their money back within 7 days (instead of 14 days as required by the Package Travel Act). Since earlier, Ving has also improved the cancellation and rebooking conditions where customers have the opportunity to rebook their charter trip an unlimited number of times up to 30 days before departure. As of today, the possibility of cancellation has also been reduced to 60 days before departure.
Göta Canal - a winner this year
An unusually high number of Swedes visited Göta Canal this year. From midsummer, the 2020 season can be summarised as one long high pressure, and several of the entrepreneurs along the canal testify to records, says Roger Altsäter, CEO of AB Göta kanalbolag. As one of Sweden's most well-known tourist destinations, the Göta Canal attracts over 3 million visitors annually, and this year's season was no exception. As many as 36 per cent of Swedish adults have visited the Göta Canal in the past year, according to a recent survey commissioned by the canal company.
Stockholm archipelago gets four new electric ferries
The journey towards a fossil-free ferry fleet continues, reports Färjerederiet, Trafikverket. Within a few years, four new electric ferries will operate on the Ljusteröleden and Vaxholm routes in the Stockholm archipelago. They will primarily run on electricity, but have backup in the form of ordinary engines that can run on HVO or diesel. The ferries have room for 60 cars and are started at the touch of a button. During the journey, the systems monitor traffic and anything else that may be in the way. Even on arrival, the vessel moors itself and charges the batteries from shore power.
Reflection of the week
The travel industry is really being tested in these times and is doing its best to innovate. You can't help but wonder how many will survive, and how the industry will change.

BP says:
Yes, I'm sure a lot of people did that this year, and just like you, they ended up at Göta Kanal.
That electric ferry looks really cool, I hope it will be just as nice once it is built.
