October photo challenge! This time we are not as late as last time. Previous themes have included vehicles, water, patterns, clouds, people, religious, and sunrises and sunsets. This month's theme is ... man-made.

October photo challenge
It is the travel blogger Maria's memoirs who is organising the photo challenges and the theme for October is "man-made". Hmm, a slightly tricky and challenging, but at the same time exciting theme! By the way, you can see our contributions to other themes here:
Ancient masterpieces
On Mount MasadaIn the middle of the desert at an altitude of 400 metres, the Roman Herod built an entire palace and fortress between 37-43 BC.
According to legend, it was founded St Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai in 337 by Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.
The female pharaoh Hatshepsut ruled Egypt from 1479-1457 BC. Her temple can be seen during a Travel to Luxor.
Asian mysticism
The remaining parts of the Great Wall of China are a staggering 600 kilometres long. The wall was built between the 3rd and 17th centuries, and you can visit it from the following locations Beijing.
The cave temple in Dambulla in Sri Lanka consists of five caves including 153 Buddha statues and huge wall paintings.
My Son is a complex of temples in Vietnam, not too far from the Hi An, which was built between the 3rd and 12th centuries. Fascinating even though it was partially destroyed during the Vietnam War.
Artificial environments
El Gouna in Egypt is an artificial holiday resort that began construction in 1989 and was inaugurated in 1997. There are plenty of lagoons, canals and islands - and everything is man-made.
There Empuriabrava is once a marshland. Today it is the site of exclusive accommodation in luxury villas along long beautiful waterways.
Last but not least, we can mention Göta Canal in Sweden! The Göta Canal is 190.5 km long, of which 87.3 km has been dug or blasted.
Which of the photos/locations do you like best? Do you have any of your own photos with man-made content? If you have a blog - feel free to join in and make your own post with the October theme!

Man-made, fun challenge! I'd probably throw in the Burj Khalifa too.
(But why does the table of contents come last? 🙂 )

Haha, good question! We use the table of contents mostly to link headings within posts. At first we had it at the top, but some people complained about it (probably because they saw it unfolded) so we put it at the bottom ....).

Great contribution! And great pictures! Many have a high recognition factor. Choosing a picture is difficult but I choose the picture from Dambulla in Sri Lanka. I have great memories from there and the picture reinforces them.

Very funny that you also offer a trip around the world, almost in any case. Ditte also included the Great Wall of China, and that building is outstanding considering when and how it was built. So it has to be my favourite.

Yes, there was a little trip around the world! 😉 The Great Wall of China is really a fantastic and impressive building!

One of my favourites is Hotchickensoup (Hatshepsut). So hard to remember what it's called but the guide's tricks helped me?./ P

Oh my goodness, what man can do. I liked that temple in Vietnam best. It looked very special.

Sorry that I missed adding your post to the list, now it's fixed 🙂 Nice contributions, that I didn't think to include Masada itself as well, it's really one of the coolest man-made creations I've seen 🙂 The Giza pyramids would also have fit in well.
