Old discs, books and comics are what it's all about today! This is a travel blog, but today it will be a different kind of trip ... namely a nostalgia trip!

Some things that were saved from the container - at least temporarily
A few weeks ago, we helped Peter's mum to... moving from house to flat. She could only take a fraction of everything in the big house, and most of the things that couldn't be packed we threw away. Of course we would like to explore every opportunity to make use of things (none of us like to throw away unnecessarily), but it is a time-consuming job, and time was really the last thing we had.
Yet we couldn't help throwing really everything. Among other things, we brought a nice complete set of crockery and a doll's house - two things that someone in the family might enjoy. We also lifted several boxes of old discs, books and comics. There was no time to sort, we just lifted them into the car.
Only yesterday we took the time to go through everything, and it was a nostalgia trip we may say! We'll see what we can do with all this, but for now, we thought we'd take you on the journey and show you some examples. Anything you recognise? Do you have similar things at home?
Old discs
Who remembers the stone cakes? They seem old-fashioned now, but once upon a time they were the latest thing.
This little box of singles is also a few years old, but it's really cute, isn't it?
I (Helena) have never heard of Humle & Dumle (from Knorr!), but Peter thought more people would recognise it.
The Jungle Book has been around for a while and is still popular. Here as a disc!
Cornelis Vreeswijk and Lill Lindfors are certainly in more old cupboards, aren't they?
And then some other old records: Jimi Hendrix, The Jacksons, Queen and Tom Jones ...
Old books
We also got a pile of old books. This old family bible is nice, isn't it?
This textbook was printed in 1800, fascinating!
A travelogue from Africa. Of course, if it had been written today, it would have a different title!
Two books that everyone recognises: Emil in Lönneberga and Pippi Longstocking!
And then some typical young people's books... Who hasn't read these kinds of books in their youth?
Old series
We also picked up some comic books, including 91 Karlsson.
The Beef and the Banana, anyone read it?
Finally, something that may not quite be a comic book, but still has roughly the same format: Applause and whistles, Rit-Ola's Christmas pudding.
Do you recognise any of these old records, books or comics? Do you have similar collections at home?

A hotel we recently visited in Malmö had picture frames in the lobby with old LP cases on them. Nice decorating idea if you want to use them for something.

Kenneth Risberg says:
What a collection, I recognise several of the discs and magazines. Humle and Dumle I remember and 91:an Karlsson I often read and saw the films that were shown.
I have saved a few discs, The Beatles HELP from 1965 and Jimi Hendrix from 1967 and some others like Mungo Jerry from 1970.
My grandchildren were curious because they didn't know about record players or records.

Helena says:
Records and record players are probably very odd for children today 😉.

Ama de casa says:
Great nostalgic recognition here! Come to think of it, it was only in mid-adulthood that I got the AHA experience that Bumblebee & Dumbledore's faces were upside-down chins. Well, yes. I have always been quick to realise things 😀.
Have a great Sunday!

Helena says:
I (Helena) am even later then. I heard about them for the first time the other day and I still don't get the chin thing?

Only British says:
Humle & Dumle have a cult following in my family because my mum's cousin sang the song so perfectly. They are sometimes shown in SVT's nostalgia programme.

Helena says:
Fun! I (Helena) had never even heard of them, but Peter was right that they were well known 😉.

bmlarstravellingblog says:
There's a big "recognition factor" on a lot of the stuff, including Bumblebee and Dumle (in Captain Bäckström's pantry) and books for young people.
Vinyl records have become really popular again. We heard about someone who got really good money for old 60's records, at least check before you throw anything away.
11 October 2020 - 11:34
Helena says:
Yes, we will try to check out the vinyl discs!

Ruth in Virginia says:
I remember Rit-Ola and of course 91 Karlsson.
(missing Kronblom and his Lotta). Used to be in
Everyone's Weekly.
And gramophone discs. You could hear a demo in the shop,
before buying or not buying.
Astrid Lindgren had not even started writing 'in my time'.
Nostalgia is fun, but what to do with it all?
Well done, by the way"

Great to hear about your memories! What to do with everything? Nostalgia is fun but it's hard to save everything.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
The stone cakes were yes with my uncle and cleared in the 60's the discs went into the mountain, today madness would have been saved. Yes title negerland BUT what does it matter we can not turn back history. Met in the 50's a dark skinned negro it was a sensation at that time and we were the same age 5-6 years. We had acquaintances who were Missionaries like that in Africa.
You have certainly captured a lot of nostalgia.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
Humle and Dumle were quite a variety in their day!

Ditte says:
What fun with this nostalgia trip. I probably recognised most of it, both in terms of records, books and magazines. But much has moved on except for some books. Old LP discs are valuable today.

BP says:
It was then a nostalgic journey. I have no memory of stone cakes, but I do remember all the LP discs and singles, which my husband insists on keeping. He sold his comic books at an antique bookshop in England and got good money for them. The collector's value is surprisingly high. This also applies to LP discs that are in good condition. I would probably keep the old books myself - a bit of a cult following.

What a nostalgia trip! Kulla-Gulla was a favourite of mine and brings back many memories 😀.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
- My name is Bumblebee!
- And my name is Dumle!
- Every day we meet in the Captain...(something) ... pantry!
Saw them as children on Good Morning Sweden! And of course Peter is right!

Lena - good for the soul says:
Haha, yes, it was high-level nostalgia. Such things are so fun to go through. I recognise Bumblebee and Dumle. However, I am a little too young to have seen them. Pippi and Emil were of course in my bookshelf. And all my mother's old discs. Some stone biscuits are probably in some hiding place somewhere too.
