Motorhome fridge not running on LPG? We recently encountered this problem. Luckily, we have a lot of great readers who gave us tips on how to solve the problem. Now we want to share how we did it, and how it worked.

Problem: Motorhome fridge not running on LPG
A while ago we told you about 5 new faults on our motorhomeand one of these was that the fridge suddenly didn't work on LPG. It worked fine on electricity and even on 12 volts, but when we switched to LPG it died completely. However, judging by all the comments, we were far from alone in experiencing problems with the motorhome fridge not running on LPG. Here are some examples of comments:
We also had problems with the fridge at the beginning of the summer.
I had the same problem with gas for the fridge. This summer.
Boring with errors that follow each other. Many people seem to have had problems with refrigerators this year, according to blogs I've read.
What causes the problem? And what to do about it?
It was clear that many people have experienced similar problems. And aren't blogs, Facebook and social media great sometimes? The tips poured in (THANK YOU so much!). Most people described that the fridge/burner needs to be cleaned/swept:
As for the refrigerator, it is most likely the burner that needs to be cleaned.
The fridge probably needs to be "blown clean" with some compressed air. Google it and you'll find a YouTube film, which we did.
We blew out the burner, which was probably clogged with something. It's been working ever since.
Motorhome fridge didn't work on LPG - here's what we did
We read all the tips, did some extra googling and found a YouTube film that we watched. After this, we felt pretty convinced that it should be possible to solve the problem by cleaning or blowing clean around the burner. We started by switching off the gas.
Next, we unscrewed the grille, which sits in front of the burner.
Now we peered into the (very dusty!) hatch, and we started by unscrewing the cover in front of the burner.
To get proper access, we also unscrewed the burner from the large pipe.
Cleaning (blowing clean) the burner
Now it was a matter of cleaning the burner. We understand that soot flakes can get stuck and clog the pipes. We have read about different ways of cleaning. These include blowing air through a suction tube, blowing with compressed air or brushing or poking with something small and narrow.
We have a compressor with compressed air, so we decided to try this. The reason we also used a generator is because we don't have access to electricity in the neighbourhood.
We blew clean as thoroughly as we could, everywhere we could reach and where soot flakes could get stuck. We also tapped the big pipe. Then we screwed everything together, as it was originally installed. We put the gas back on and checked that the flame was blue and burned steadily.
How did it go? When we went out to the motorhome the next time and checked the fridge and freezer, it was still there. cold. Wonderful, now the motorhome's fridge works on LPG again!
Now we have only one question left. A reader wrote that you should also "order a new filter which apparently has to be changed every two years". This is not something we know about. Is there something we have missed? If so, please let us know!

Good to have a cold fridge.
If you want to get rid of dust inside, put on the winter hatches. Good also when driving 😉

Good morning! It is good to install a LPG filter directly after the LPG bottles!
There is dirty LPG (cheap/foreign) !
Good luck!

Brilliant!
Well done. This particular problem with the fridge is probably not uncommon for motorhome owners.

Yes, glad it worked out! And agree, it seems to be a common problem.

Good that you fixed the fridge
We have a filter before the tank bottles. More convenient. After you have to have two filters .

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
I have never had an LPG filter (started in 2000 with a motorhome). In April 2013 I installed a fixed tank and have refuelled in many countries in Europe and never had a problem with the LPG.
But I don't want to say that filters are unnecessary.

Well done, because you do want a working fridge. Imagine if we could have solved our problem like that too. We are still waiting for the "black box".
Have a nice weekend

Well done and described! Just such a post that I think many people need with good pictures and explanatory text as a complement to Youtube.

It must be a comfort that more than just you have experienced the same thing. Perfect with all the tips if now resulted in a cold fridge. Good work there!

I have to admit that I have never heard of "LPG filters". Have had a motorhome for ten years now. Would be grateful if someone could explain to me where it should be placed, and what function it has, etc.

The filter that someone mentions can be the one you put at the Duo coupling if you have one or after the regulator.

But great! So wonderful when you manage to fix things yourself and also fairly easy! At least if you have a compressor.

Have had problems getting the fridge running with the gas and did exactly as shown in the pictures. It was completely clogged and after cleaning it was clean. Used both compressed air and scraped a little carefully with a small screwdriver. On the first attempt, the refrigerator started and the flame is blue and stable Thank you for the tip and it was very easy to follow the instructions.
