Sweden's 5 best travel sites named

The IT/technology magazine IDG has named Sweden's five best sites in the travel category. Travel in 2020 may have been limited, but instead travel sites have been able to take the opportunity to develop their digital services. The winner is SL! According to the magazine, the design has been updated, the site works well in mobile mode and the app is easy to navigate. Here are the five best travel sites:

  1. SL
  2. First Camp
  3. Nordic Choice
  4. SJ
  5. Skånetrafiken

Sweden's 5 best tourism sites named

The IT/technology magazine IDG has also named Sweden's five best websites in the tourism category. The year 2020 has brought major challenges for the tourism industry in Sweden, while at the same time the websites of the destinations have been important in providing information and inspiration for home holidays. The winner is Kolmården! The site has been given a fresh design with attractive video clips, and during the autumn they have rolled out "My pages" with an overview of bookings and other things. Here are the five best tourism websites:

Viking Line cancels Åland cruises

Viking Line is cancelling all cruises between Stockholm and Helsinki. Åland with Viking Cinderella between 19 November 2020 and 3 February 2021. The reason is the increasing spread of infection in Sweden and the regional government advice that means that most of the population is now expected to avoid unnecessary travel and physical contact outside their own household. Recently, the shipping company also announced that it is planning for summer cruises 2021to four hot destinations.

Liseberg builds 'Oceana' water park

Following a favourable decision by Liseberg's board and a signed agreement with the building contractor NCC, work on Liseberg's water park has now begun. The water park, named Oceana, is scheduled for completion in just over three years, and with its 500,000 annual guests will be a much-needed addition to the tourism industry in Gothenburg. The water park will have a unique theme, inspired by the history of Gothenburg and the East India Company.

Baltic Sea region's first sustainable tourism award - Sweden honoured in all categories

For the first time ever, an award will be given to organisations promoting sustainable tourism in the Baltic Sea region. The initiative aims to stimulate the recovery of the tourism industry and to encourage sustainable ideas during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 13th Baltic Sea Tourism Forum, prizes were awarded in three categories:

  • Most sustainable tourist destination: 1) Pärnu, Estonia, 2) Saaremaa, Estonia and 3) Valdemarsvik, Sweden
  • Most sustainable product/service: 1) Sinatur Hotel & Konference, Denmark, 2) Aavameri Sea Kayaking, Finland and 3) Do the North, Sweden.
  • Most sustainable tourism service provider: 1) Aavameri Sea Kayaking, Finland, 2) Herrankukkaro Oy, Finland and 3) Wild Sweden, Sweden.

Mariestad is the most motorhome-friendly municipality of the year - again!

Mariestad has once again been voted Sweden's most motorhome-friendly municipality. The annual vote is organised by Husbilsklubben.se. Since 2014, the club has awarded the title of Sweden's most motorhome-friendly municipality, and the first time Mariestad Municipality won the award was in 2016. Now it is the first to receive the award for a second time. The justification highlights, among other things, the informative website with a presentation of eight pitches and four campsites.

Reflection of the week

We were almost on our way to Mariestad with the campervan this summer, after our visit to Töreboda and lake villagebut it didn't turn out that way. Now we were even more keen to visit this motorhome-friendly city at some point!
