Getting away for a long weekend in autumn is one way to make the dark season feel a little less 'boring'. In fact, you don't always have to travel so far to get a change of scenery and new energy. This weekend we spent a long weekend with our friends on the island of Ringsö in Lake Mälaren. Very cosy!

Getting away for a long weekend in autumn
It can be nice to travel with a motorhome in the autumn, but the reason we took the motorhome this weekend was mostly because we have no other car. To the island of Ringsö you have to take a small private boat, so the motorhome could not follow us all the way. Freedom had to wait in the car park on the mainland.
Ringsö in Lake Mälaren
Our friends Lennart and Beata have a log house on the island. Ringsö in Lake Mälaren. They got it a long time ago because Lennart's dream was to build his own log house. The construction took a long time and stalled for a few years, but with Peter's help, and a lot of their own work of course, they have made good progress in recent years. And isn't the house beautiful?
The guest beds are in the loft, so we slept there. Really cosy view through the round window towards the forest and the water! However, there were no stairs to the loft, so we had to climb up and down a high ladder. But it was time to change that!
Building a staircase
This weekend's construction job was to assemble the stairs. It came in small parts so a bit tricky to assemble, but in the end it worked. With joint forces we also got a railing up. Next time we go to Ringsö it will be more comfortable to get up to "our" sleeping loft!
Working remotely
The great thing today is that you can, and often should, work from home. I (Helena) worked some with my job, and Peter and I participated together in a webcast seminar on food and wine in Hungary. Inspiring!
Teaching to eat crab
When we talked to Lennart and Beata the week before, they mentioned that they would like to learn how to eat whole crab. It happens to be a favourite in our home, so of course we joined in and brought crab, crab tools and other accessories. It was a really good and pleasant meal. And yes, Lennart and Beata fell in love with the delicacy!
Autumn long weekend with fishing
If you follow our blog, you know that we were also out and about. fished with nets in Lake Mälarenand it was perhaps the highlight of the weekend. Fantastic weather, quiet and still on the water, and fish in the net.
Nice to get away for a long weekend in the autumn.
It's really nice to get away for a long weekend in the autumn. It feels like a small trip and you get to change your environment for a few days. If you also get out into nature, it feels good with all the fresh air. The days are shorter, but maybe it's even more important to get out when it's light.
Did you get away for a long weekend this autumn, or are you planning to get away somewhere?

You have to take care when the weather is sunny for the weekend, we take the motorhome to Grisslehamn and day trips to Ekerö. Some food and tax-free shopping.

What a cosy little house. And the staircase was very special. It's nice to have friends that you can also help or that we can get help from. We ourselves have been at home, but it is not so long ago that we were out on a shorter trip. We are not dependent on weekends but can go when we feel like it.

What a wonderful weekend you had on Ringsö!
We will hopefully go on a little weekend trip with a hotel overnight stay this weekend. No plans are really safe right now, but it feels like we will try to plan some more small trips in the future, which lightens the winter darkness before it is time to take out the motorhome again.

The log house is absolutely fantastic! It looks really big from the outside, but seems to be a bit smaller and cosy "for real". The stairs are really original, I must say. Nothing to climb up or down on the drunk if you say so;-)
Fun with a crab night - soooo good :-)

Refreshing to do something a little different for a change and for a change of scenery? Thinking a little bit about maybe booking me in a hotel or airbnb for my birthday which is at the end of November. May see...

How lovely and beautiful it looks!
Crab, how delicious!
The sea, the freedom and being able to meet people. Such a big difference from my life in lockdown in Wales.

What lovely pictures! It's true that you don't have to go far to get a change of scenery. Sweden is fantastic with that. The nature that changes with the season and the nature that changes in just a few kilometres. We have planned to go with the camper for a day trip to the coast, (west then.) Have a good time!

It sounds like a cosy break from everyday life. We definitely haven't left. Not even on a hiking trip during the day. But hopefully that will change soon, because we'll soon be ready for demolition.
