Will there be new travel patterns after the pandemic? Yes, it is possible if a new survey is to be believed. According to another survey, Swedes will want to see more of Sweden in the future. We also report on the annual 'shame list' and Visit Sweden's new marketing campaign.

One in two Swedes want to change travel patterns after the pandemic

Almost every second Swede is ready to change their travel habits, travel less and holiday more often in Sweden after the pandemic restrictions are lifted. This is according to a new survey conducted by Novus on behalf of Schyst Travel. Overall, 48 per cent say they believe they will switch to more sustainable travel, even after the pandemic restrictions are released. Every third respondent states that they think they will travel less often and one fifth that they think they will holiday more within Sweden in the future.

Travel companies top the Råd & Röns shame list 2020

Every year, the consumer magazine Råd & Rön compiles the "Shame List", which lists the companies that have received the most complaints against them from the Swedish Consumer Agency. This year, almost half of the list is made up of airline and travel companies. SAS is first on the list, having received 260 complaints, including from people who have not received refunds for cancelled flights. Other airlines and travel companies on the list include TUI, Norwegian and Ving.

Halved revenues for hotels and campsites

The pandemic is hitting the hotel and accommodation sector hard. Between March and August 2020, hotels, campsites, holiday villages and hostels have more than halved their revenues compared to the same period in 2019, according to a new report from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. This has led to 10 000 employees being made redundant. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and until August, 1,565 applications from companies in the hotel and accommodation sector with a total of 21,800 employees have been granted support from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.

Stromma cancels all its Christmas tables

Strömma has recently announced that it is cancelling all Christmas table cruises with Strömma Kanalbolaget in Gothenburg and Stockholm, as well as Vaxholm Castle's Christmas table.

Swedes want to see more of Sweden

For the third year in a row, the Swedish Network of Destination Management Organisations (SNDMO) is presenting the results of the "Travel in Sweden" survey. This year's results are clearly marked by the corona pandemic and show increased interest in Sweden. 

7 out of 10 want to travel more in 2021 than they did in 2020. 80 per cent want to see more of Sweden in the future. Only 4 per cent have stated that they plan to travel less next year. Among people over the age of 56, many have indicated that they do not know anything about travelling next year or plan to travel as usual. 

Visit Sweden promotes Sweden to 20 million people

Sweden's marketing company, Visit Sweden, launched its next international marketing campaign "From Sweden With Love" on 26 November in the US, UK, Germany and France. In total, the fully digital campaign is expected to reach around 20 million people interested in travelling to Sweden. The purpose of the campaign is to build the image of Sweden as a destination "in mind" in the prioritised markets.

Reflection of the week

The travel news right now is not very encouraging. At the same time, maybe there is also something positive in thinking about our holiday habits and, for example, discovering Sweden more. For now, let's enjoy Advent and the Christmas spirit!
