It's Monday again and time for travel news. Doesn't time go very fast? This week it's all about businesses being cancelled, but also about a baby rhino and a new destination launched by Apollo.

Skansen closes its entrances - for the first time in 129 years
On Friday it closes Skansen entrances and Christmas at Skansen are cancelled. As a result of Prime Minister Stefan Löfven's press conference and clear message earlier this week, "Cancel", Skansen sees no other option than to shut down the operation completely. This is to take responsibility in accordance with the new guidelines where all people are encouraged to take personal responsibility and not meet more than eight people, within the family.
Liseberg cancels the Christmas tables
Following the announcement of tighter restrictions and the Prime Minister's message that even businesses that are not legally subject to the regulations should still take them into account, Liseberg has now decided to cancel its planned Christmas party activities. The children's party activities in Spelhuset are also cancelled for the rest of the year. The decision means that 2020 will be a blank year in Liseberg's history, and the loss for the company is estimated to be around SEK 500 million in 2020.
A baby rhino has seen the light of day at Kolmården.
Friday 13 November was a lucky day at the Kolmården! At 01.15, the experienced rhino mother Imfolozi gave birth to a calf. The baby, a male named Amadi, weighed about 60 kilos at birth and both mother and baby are doing well. Today there are few rhinos left in the wild, as they are hunted and killed for their horns. The rhinos at Kolmården are part of an international conservation programme, so it is particularly gratifying that another baby has been born in the zoo.
Stena Line resumes passenger traffic between Gothenburg and Hamina.
Danish authorities announced on Thursday that they are easing several of the restrictions imposed on 9 November in seven municipalities in northern Jutland. Stena Line will therefore resume passenger traffic on the Gothenburg-Fredrikshamn route from Friday 20 November. Stena Line sails a total of around 50 departures per week on the Gothenburg-Fredrikshamn route and a further 20 departures per week on the new route between Halmstad and Grenå.
Apollo launches the island of Limnos as a new destination in Greece for next summer
In the summer of 2021, Apollo is expanding its programme with a new Greek destination: the island of Limnos in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. On Limnos you do not encounter the large tourist flows but meet a really authentic Greece, writes Apollo in a press release. Limnos also offers beautiful beaches, the opportunity to cycle or hike and attractions such as Roman theatres and historic cities. Apollo has now opened the Apollo Sports hotel Porto Myrina - Powered by Playitas. The first flight will depart from Stockholm on 15 May 2021.
This year's Christmas present is the storm kitchen
For the 33rd consecutive year, HUI Research is awarding the Christmas gift of the year, which this year was the storm kitchen! Motivation: "As a result of the corona crisis, the outdoor trend has accelerated sharply and visits to hiking trails and mountain peaks have broken new records - despite very limited tourism from abroad. Holidays turned into swimming holidays and restaurant meals with wine were replaced by big kitchen dinners and thermal coffee. 2020 was the year when Swedes rediscovered Swedish nature and the storm kitchen therefore represents the, in many ways, strange time we live in."
Reflection of the week
It feels a bit sad and unfortunate that Skansen is closing. Sad that it was not even possible to have the outdoor activities open! Instead, we get to enjoy that enormously cute baby rhino, even if you have to settle for watching everything via the computer nowadays.

It's really sad to see everything being shut down and cancelled, but what can you do? There has to be a way to stop the shit virus.
It's actually not quite true that it was 129 years ago that Skansen closed its doors. When I worked there in the 80s, it was always closed on Christmas Eve, and I'm not quite as old as 129 😉.
But it's a big difference from the current shutdown.

It is so sad with everything being cancelled and closed completely. I don't even want to think about the economic consequences in the short or long term. We will have to deal with the consequences of C-19 for years to come, unfortunately.
Amadi is cute, but Nelson whose fate the whole of Sweden followed back then was cuter;-)
It's actually quite sad that a storm kitchen is this year's Christmas present. Yes, all preppers will cheer, I myself do not even want a storm kitchen so surely would be pushed away to a corner at the bottom of a pantry / cabinet.

What a thing! Skansen closes for the first time in 129 years! And 500 MSEK back for Liseberg! So many businesses that are on their knees or completely collapse. How tragic! We really hope that this will go away soon!
