Some December trips to dream about! This is a very different year, and December is unusually grey. Maybe it's not surprising that you start dreaming about travelling! This year it's best to stay at home and see as few people as possible, but when you can travel again, we dream of doing this kind of December travel again.
Table of contents
1. El Gouna in Egypt
Last year we visited Egypt no less than twice. In December 2019, we went to the holiday resort of El Gouna, which may be accused of being artificial, but is also very beautiful with its lagoons and greenery. Here you can snorkelling in the Red Sea, sunbathing on the "beach island" Zeytouna Beach Island or perhaps explore the larger city of Hurghada, which is nearby. A perfect place to relax and unwind!
2. Round trip in Sri Lanka
The year before, that is, in December 2018, we made a round trip in Sri Lanka together with our friends Lennart and Beata. What a fantastic country! The nature is splendid and everywhere you meet monkeys, elephants and exotic birds. In addition, you can experience temple, Buddhist culture, good food and lovely beaches with sun and swimming.
3. Tour of Israel
At the end of December 2017 we decided to experience Israel. What a fantastically exciting trip! We started from Eilat in the south, where you can experience sun, diving and dolphins. We then rented a car and made a fantastic round trip with Jerusalem as our main goal. On the way we discovered many interesting places, including Dead Sea and Qumranwhere the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
4. Boat trip in the Philippines
In December 2013, we travelled to the Philippines. We flew to Manila, where we had time to visit restaurants and shopping malls, before moving on to take a boat trip between some different islands. We experienced among other things Sabang and Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro before continuing to the famous holiday island of Boracay. Here we had sun and swimming, boat trips and a lot of good food.
Langkawi in Malaysia
Even further back, in December 2012, we visited Malaysia. We made a short (but interesting!) visit to the hectic and modern city of Hong Kong. Kuala Lumpur. But above all, we were lazy and had a good time on the holiday island of Langkawi. Here you can enjoy sun and swimming, but also make various excursions by moped or catamaran. Or you can experience the "Skybridge" or see lots of exotic animals during a tour of the island. boat trip in the Mangoves swamp. A great trip!
What December holidays are you dreaming of?
Johnny Friskilä says:
Well, where have I been in December? Last year I was a tour guide on a Christmas market trip to Vienna. I don't dream about that, and if I do, it's a nightmare. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, I was in Pakistan in December, and yes, I do dream of going back. In 2015 it was Florida, and in 2013 it was a small tour of Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia. That was cold!

Not surprisingly, I dream most about New York, the first year since 2009 that I was not there.. o have never been there in December :-), want to see all the Christmas bling... Dec-19 I was in Japan for the first time (Handball World Cup + Kyoto + Tokyo)., wonderful but no desire to return, Dec-16 Koh Samet + Bangkok..BKK my Asian NY that you always long for... Dec 17 Hamburg for Yello concert + Christmas markets... Dec-15 Miami over New Year + Caribbean cruise... yes, I would like to cruise again :-)... but cities are what I long for most. A beautiful day so ...

Johnny, oh it sounds like a difficult visit to Vienna. We would love to visit Vienna, but maybe under different circumstances then 🙂 Pakistan seems exciting! And all trips really do not have to be to the heat, although we are dreaming of some sun right now 😉.

Right now I can imagine going anywhere, as long as it's not on the road between home and work - which is the only thing I've seen lately 🙁 .

I really understand what you mean! By the way, we work from home ... The smallest little excursion from our daily walk feels exciting, haha.

That post was needed now, in this grey, comfortless corona corner! Wonderful destinations all five, but my dream trip now is to Sweden. I dream of going there. Would love to go to Norway and Finland too. It does not matter if it rains and is cold.

It's certainly grey and boring, and a bit anxious on top of that! Hope you soon enough get the opportunity to make your dream trip here to the North! 🙂

Right now I'm dreaming of another little mini-trip before the end of the year. You have to be happy for the little...
But you really showcase wonderful travel destinations! 🙂

Yes, you have to be happy for the little things. Right now it feels like you can hardly even make a mini-trip here, except out in nature, it goes well! If only the sun would want to show itself like that 😉

It does not feel like we usually go somewhere in December so often. Often a lot at work then. And with the family. But last year there was a press trip to the Philippines and that was wonderful.

Helena says:
I remember your Philippines trip! 🙂 We have often travelled in December, I noticed. Even the years I did not include (but then it was less exotic destinations, such as Croatia or France). Maybe that's why we miss it extra much right now ... (Although of course we do not want to travel when the circumstances are as they are.)

Surely it is nice to dream and remember. I am so happy with all the trips we have made over the years and have wonderful memories, experiences and pictures with us.
We have often gone away in December and stayed away for a long time. In the past it was often Asia but in recent years to Spain and the Spanish cottage. . Very different in itself. But certainly Asia attracts a lot now. But when the pandemic is over, a lot of exciting things await.

What a lovely post! Right now it was needed more than ever (even though we had a sunny morning yesterday. First glimpse of blue sky in December). We are probably most looking forward to Africa again, after our wonderful trips during Advent to Botswana - 13 and South Africa - 15. Right now, any destination with sun and reasonable warmth would be ok....

Thanks for this uplifting post in the winter darkness:-) I can easily dream myself back to my beloved Israel and Tel Aviv. Love culture clashes, and Israel is just such a one.

I have been dreaming about Sri Lanka for a long time. I hope it is possible to go there soon. I am getting more worried though that the pandemic is making some destinations more unsafe again for solo travellers. :/
