Booking situation in Dalarna for Christmas and New Year: "Restrictions are extremely diverse"
Some accommodations report fully booked cabins and a need for more seasonal employees. Others describe losses of up to 100 per cent and a total closure of operations to survive at all. A call made by Visit Dalarna to sixty accommodations throughout Dalarna before Christmas week gives a serious and varied picture of the situation. It is clear that many choose to book their own cottage, with the possibility of self-catering. Hotels in the cities seem to be having the toughest time.
New study shows that events are lacking
This year, almost all events were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was a good opportunity to start investigating the importance of events. Linnaeus University is conducting a study on the initiative of Destination squidin co-operation with 13 destinations. The study shows that the events are of great importance, both for businesses and residents. A total of 47% of business owners say that the cancellation of events has affected their business a lot or very much.
One in 10 have resold an unwanted Christmas present
Despite the corona pandemic, many Swedes planned to spend a lot on Christmas presentson average just over SEK 2700 per person. At the same time, a new survey by Blocket, in collaboration with Kantar Sifo, shows that seven out of ten Swedes have at some point received a Christmas present they did not want. One in ten have resold an unwanted Christmas present. During the holidays, Swedes buy and sell used items on Blocket for millions of kronor.
These Christmas gifts are already being resold on Tradera during the festive season.

So far, 24 per cent more unwanted Christmas gifts have already been sold on Tradera compared to the same period last year. Top list: These gifts were resold on Tradera on 24-25 December 2020:

How we travel in 2021, according to TUI
Based on customer data, surveys and its own crystal ball, TUI has boiled it down to five travel trends for 2021.
- Nostalgia trips - After being isolated for much of 2020, we want to return to favourite records and reunite with people we haven't been able to see.
- Do good, feel good - The past year has resulted in health and well-being being at the top of our agenda. We prioritise nature experiences, hotels with healthy food and activities that contribute to a better world.
- Life Goals - The pandemic has made us re-evaluate most things, and 2021 will be the year when we pull out the list of goals we want to tick off at some point in our lives.
- Workation - In 2020, we learnt how to work remotely with digital tools. Now we can bring the computer and stay for another week.
- Play it safe - Health and safety is important, and safety measures by airlines, hotels and restaurants continue to be important.
TUI launches next winter's programme after great interest
As a consequence of increased demand, TUI opened up bookings for selected trips for next winter already in October. Significantly earlier than a normal year. The entire winter programme is now up for sale. The greatest interest is in Thailand holidays, but also the news Zanzibar looks set to be the big hit of next winter. In the past week, 50 per cent more people have booked trips than in the same week last year, and Thailand has been booked 200 per cent more than in the same week last year.
Reflection of the week
It feels like many people are dreaming of travelling now, especially exotic ones. This dark and heavy autumn has probably contributed to an extra strong desire to travel. Now you have to keep your fingers crossed that the vaccination goes as well as possible.

Lena - good for the soul says:
Yes, I really miss travelling, events and excursions. As I said, we are in the process of booking a safari for the autumn. In the planning there are some final days on Zanzibar. Let's see what it will mean that it is TUI's new major travel destination. Both good and bad, I think.
But before that, I hope there will be at least some minor excursions. Even if we will be busy with the house construction, it is probably good to make a break with something else.

What wonderful plans you have!!! Zanzibar is wonderful! It is a large island, so everyone can probably fit 🙂 And of course you hope for smaller excursions before the larger ones become possible!

Funny that Zanzibar is once again in the spotlight. Remember that the destination was very popular already in the 1980s.
A year without travelling, of course you long to get out and maybe do the trip of a lifetime while you still can. I think the pandemic has given us all a reminder to seize the day while it is possible.

Yes, it's been a wake-up call, and maybe that's a good thing in a way. And we do want to travel!

Maria's Memoirs says:
I do not dare to dream big for 2021, so if there is any cooler / more long-distance travel in the coming years, it will be a very nice bonus. Right now I'm thinking maybe more along the lines of a relaxing spa weekend, trying a little more unusual accommodation in my home country, visiting new national parks and other things that are still unseen. Want to continue grazing exciting and fine churches, among other things. Tour properly in Helsinki (something I have not really done even though I have been to the city several times) if the corona allows / when the restrictions are released. Would very much like to go to Stockholm as well after not being there for several years, explore new places in that city and stay with the family in Vallentuna, which, by the way, I have hardly seen in the last year either. Let's see how the vaccinations progress and when it may be relevant to travel "a little further away".

Maybe it's good not to have too many expectations. We are planning to travel, while knowing that it will be as it is. We're not in too much of a hurry, though 😉 Glad you have exciting plans in the local area too!
