Umeå researcher awarded a French knighthood
Napoleon Bonaparte's Order of the Palm with the rank of Knight has been awarded to Lena Maria Nilsson, Deputy Director of Várdduo - Centre for Sami Research and Project Coordinator at the Arctic Centre (Arcum) at Umeå University. The award was initially surprising. "I have neither a sword nor a horse. But then I realised that it was a great honour and at the highest level, and then it felt very nice and beautiful", says Lena Maria. The award means that the French state appreciates the researcher's work to promote cooperation between Sweden and French-speaking environments in Arctic research.
New platform to put Swedish outdoor recreation on the digital map
This spring, Nordic Outdoor Adventures is launching a digital platform for consumers interested in the outdoors. "We want to inspire both the Swedish people and international visitors and let them experience all the wonderful things that our Nordic outdoor life has to offer," says Michael Malmborg, CEO of Nordic Outdoor Adventures. Content in the form of destinations, hiking, paddling, cycling, hunting, fishing, cooking, maps, events and more will bring together users and market players in one place and create a gathering around a digital campfire.
Share analysis of Kabe highlights growing interest in motorhomes
A share analysis in SvD Näringsliv on 28 December 2020 describes that the Småland-based motorhome and caravan company Kabe has a strong position in the market and that the underlying interest in motorhomes and caravans is growing. The analysis mentions that Kabe's sales in the record year 2018 rose by 19 per cent, but that the company has since faced challenges in the form of tax rules and a virus crisis. It also mentions bright spots, such as the "homester" trend, which has increased demand for motorhomes and caravans.
Drottningholmsteatern aims for summer 2021
Drottningholm Palace Theatre, at Drottningholm Castle, plans for two premieres in the 2021 season - baroque opera house Agrippina and the children's and family show Beauty and the Beast. Due to the coronavirus, both productions had to be postponed for a year. When planning the 2021 season, safety comes first. The number of visitors will be limited, extra staff will prevent crowding and tickets will be bought back for those who fall ill. As early as Easter, the theatre expects to resume screenings with small groups.
Reflection of the week
It's exciting that you can become a knight today, which is more than we knew. But maybe the world needs some modern knights? And we're not surprised that camper vans and caravans have become popular in this holiday season!

BP says:
Exercising more always tops the list of New Year's resolutions that are then not fulfilled;-) I didn't know about knights either, at least not that the French can knight someone in Sweden. However, it is relatively common for the British Queen to knight people, although to my knowledge only Englishmen can be knighted.

Annette says:
In 2016, I made a New Year's resolution to start reading fiction again, as my brain felt like cotton and I only read the occasional book for pleasure. In 2017 I read 97 books, but then it has dropped to 35 last year. I will take care of that now, and have made an activity diary / habit tracker, where I have "pleasure reading at least 30 min". Then it becomes clear when I prioritised wrong. Saving more would perhaps be a New Year's resolution for me, I am bad at saving when there is so much that is fun to do / eat / read 😉.
