Going through the press releases this week was unusually fun. The pandemic has meant that there are fewer press releases about tourism and travel - and some of them are disappointing. But this week, I was able to pick and choose, and several news items felt positive and uplifting.

Croatia introduces "Safe stay in Croatia" stamp instead of Covid passport
Croatia's Minister of Tourism and Sport Nikolina Brnjac says that Croatia will not introduce Covid passport requirements. Instead, the Ministry of Tourism is preparing a safety protocol - "Safe Stay in Croatia", in cooperation with the Croatian Institute of Public Health. Obtaining the "Safe Stay in Croatia" label requires training, and it is also proposed that employees in the tourism sector be prioritised for COVID-19 vaccination. Croatia was last year one of the few countries fully open to all EU tourists. 7.8 million tourists visited the country in 2020 (37% compared to 2019).

New report from Visit Sweden - on tourists in Sweden in 2021 and beyond
The Swedish marketing company Visit Sweden recently launched the report "The Swedish target group", about Swedish tourists in Sweden now and in the future. The report shows that Swedes are now very curious and google travel destinations several times a week, and that packaged experiences that include accommodation, food and activities are appealing to more and more people. When Swedes holiday in Sweden they want to have fun and experience new things together, relax and escape their routines, and feel free. They also want to enjoy good food and experience nature.

The pitches in Lindvallen will be available all year round. Swedish Northern Lights live attracted 260,000 Chinese people
On 1 February, Visit Sweden live-streamed 13 hours of sparkling northern lights from the Tree Hotel in Harads, Norrbotten, via the social platform WeChat's newly launched "WeChat Channels" in China. The broadcast included both a commentator talking about the northern lights and tourist information about Norrbotten and Sweden. In a few hours, over 260,000 Chinese saw the northern lights. The aim was to keep up interest in Sweden even if it is not yet possible to travel here.
Swedish visas go to Romania - to be released into the wild!
Last week, a total of five bison from zoos and wildlife centres in southern Sweden were loaded, including Borås Zoo, on a special transport to Romania. The goal - a new life in the Carpathian Mountains! A hundred years ago there were no bison left in the wild, but today there are over 6,000. The plan is to create a population of at least 100 animals in a large natural area. The Swedish orcas will spend a few months in a 100ha enclosure for acclimatisation, and in April/May the gates will open.
Reflection of the week
It's hard to believe that we humans are supposed to be careful about travelling right now - but then a bunch of wiseguys get to go on an exciting European trip instead. Sometimes life is a bit ironic. In any case, we wish the wisemen good luck!

It's good to see some relief at least in the tourism industry, as long as it is done safely, of course.
Fun for the fish to get out in the freedom! Hope they will appreciate it 🙂 .
Have a great start to the week!

The real reliefs may not come quite yet, but you are so starved for positive news so the smallest thing that feels a little happy is sucked 🙂 Wishing you a continued nice week!

How wonderful it sounds with some positive news! We have even started planning for some travelling, so nice to see the light in the tunnel and I was extra happy when the age for vaccines in the next phase was lowered to 65! Sometimes it is nice to have the age inside ...

Yes, it's nice to have the age inside sometimes 😉 Now it is "only" that the vaccine deliveries come as they should!!!

Up until a minute ago, I didn't even know what a biscuit was. Now I do. Tell you what - it's a shame about all the travel restrictions, but Romania is probably not a destination I would choose to travel to even if I could;-)

Visents are cool! But they can be called European bison too, maybe that describes better 🙂 I'm a bit keen on Romania actually, would love to visit Transylvania among other things 🙂 .

Interesting reading about the Visents. I hope they can get used to the wide world eventually.
Norrbotten has much to offer the adventurous.

Yes, gosh, you can feel the cravings bubbling in your body now. Especially when the spring sun starts to make itself known!
Hehe, hope that the furry one knows Romanian then, in case they move there! 😉
