What happened after the campervan was broken into? It took repairs and contacting insurance companies, but the motorhome is now back home and ready for the season. But two problems remain ...

After the burglary of the motorhome
You may remember that we had burglary in the camper van a few weeks ago. The burglars smashed a window, tore open a drawer inside the car and rummaged around everywhere. Because the alarm went off, the batteries were also discharged. We filed a police report, contacted the insurance company and took care of everything that needed to be fixed.
- Rutan was repaired at Svenska Bussglas in Kallhäll. This cost us 1500 SEK in excess.
- The box was repaired at Iveco in Spånga.
- The batteries was also checked at Iveco in Spånga. They said the batteries were ok, which was lucky because the insurance company told them they wouldn't replace them if they were bad.
We thought nothing was stolen, but unfortunately one thing seems to be missing - the key ring with the keys to the broom cupboard, the toilet door and the water trap! What would the thieves do with this? So annoying. We have found spare keys for the sweep door and for the toilet door, but unfortunately we don't have a spare key for the water door, so we can't get in there ...
New silencer
When we still had the car at Iveco in Spånga, we took the opportunity to change the muffler, as it was completely worn out. It was not a cheap pleasure (just over SEK 13,000), but good to get it done of course.
Another problem: opening and closing the grey water system
In addition to not being able to open the water valve (and thus not being able to fill water easily), we have another problem. This is not related to the burglary, but was a thing that broke at the end of the autumn season. We never managed to solve it then, and wonder if anyone has any good tips?
We have great difficulty in opening and closing the grey water. There is a knob connected to a twisted wire, but the wire has broken. We've looked for solutions, but haven't really figured out how to do it. Among other things, we have looked at Biltema, but have not found what we are looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Spring cleaning
This weekend we have taken the opportunity to spring clean the motorhome. We started on Friday with washing the motorhome at OKQ8 at the Port 73 trading centre in Haninge.
Then we went shopping for dry goods and consumables, such as rice, spices, tinned food and paper towels. We rarely had time to prepare such things in good time, so it felt really nice!
Yesterday we continued to spring cleaning your motorhome both inside and out. Now we feel somewhat ready for a premiere trip. However, we still have to do some fiddling to fill and empty the water. but we are still very much looking forward to a first trip at Easter!
Matts Torebring says:
I think you have been in good hands. Iveco is great, but it costs money. There is nothing in this world that annoys me more than the evil of mankind, which includes theft and vandalism. I was reminded of this again as I started writing a book about my life's journey. We had about 15 burglaries at work and one at home. We put up fences and gates at work. Then nothing has happened!
At one point, all 26 of our computers were stolen. In those days, everything was backed up on a magnetic tape. When we went to put everything back, the tape was demagnetised. It took many hundreds of hours to restore the inventory and accounts. I hope things are going well for you now and that you have a Happy Easter.

Yes, it's sad when people can't distinguish between mine and yours, or just want to destroy others. How awful with your computers!!! Wishing now a nice Easter week!

There is always something to do. Some are more boring than others, but you have to find the positive bits. You're good at that. Isn't there a lock on the tank lid itself? Maybe it can be replaced with a new one and now break it open in that case. Our car is home now, so now it is completed with cleaning and some other fix. Where does the Easter journey go then, do you pass blue gables? Hare good in Easter!
28 March 2021 - 9:23
Helena says:
Yes, it's a lock on the petrol cap. It is probably so, that we have to break the old one somehow, and then buy a new one. And of course we go to Blåkulla in Easter, haha. We haven't really landed on how we will go yet, but it will probably be a small tour, not too far because we only have a few days.

What a shame to have all that extra hassle and cost for you. And just because .....
It is good that most things are now organised and that you can look forward to a nice trip in Easter.

Yes, sad, but now we are looking forward to a little Easter trip. Wishing you a nice Easter week!

Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer to the water trap lid, but I hope it works out for you too. Now you are on the G - wonderful!

Thank you and yes, we look forward to rolling a turn soon! Wishing you a nice Easter week!

Jörgen A says:
Regarding the grey water discharge. It is still possible to open and close it, albeit with considerable difficulty if I understand it correctly.
A cheap and probably quite simple solution could be to install a ball valve on the sewer pipe itself instead. That is, leave the old valve always fully open and drain with a new ball valve on the pipe.
You seem very handy so I'm sure you'll be able to solve it easily!
28 March 2021 - 11:09
Helena says:
Thank you very much for the suggestion Jörgen, it is appreciated! I read this to Peter and he thought it sounded like a good suggestion, so we'll try something like that. Thanks again and wish you a nice Easter week!

How hard it is to have a burglary, in addition to all the extra work, I can imagine that it is quite hard psychologically too - that someone has been inside your home basically and rummaged around... Hope you avoid similar mishaps in the future!

Helena says:
Yes, it is a bit unpleasant.

The bubble how boring with all the extra work and money... But most things seem to have been solved! Will check with Jöran about the questions.
Hope you have a great trip! 🤗

Yes, sad, but as long as it is material it can be fixed. We have received some good tips here, but grateful for all the tips we can get 🙂 .

Hope you have a nice Easter and that you can relax. It is a misery with burglary, has such consequences and agrees with Matt completely. All the evil that strikes and people who carry society must largely try to cope and try to take the time required to sort everything out. A slightly strange thing when we had burglaries in both houses in the countryside. Keys were taken, some without duplicates, were old originals from older times. And from beautiful doors where it was not just changing the locks. And no one could manufacture now. Then one evening someone called with a hidden number and I never answered otherwise, but now went on intuition, it was a full 6 months after the burglary, a police officer had found the keys in a ditch and it took so long to notify us about it. They sent photos and I recognised them, got them and it was a relief but don't ask me how they work, what if we had got them when we were there or better still, I would have found them myself straight away. Now so much worry and we didn't get in. Yes, I do not know if yours can be thrown away too or are in storage. Wishing you a nice Easter in any case.

Helena says:
I'm sorry you've been burgled too! How funny with the keys ...! We have searched a bit on the ground around the motorhome, also thought that they might have been thrown away, but have not found anything. But even if they were thrown away, it is not so easy to find ...

It is then a heavenly luck that it does not affect anyone poor;-) Good that you took the opportunity to fix the muffler while you were still doing it. Imagine how much money you and many others have been able to save during the pandemic year. You can now put this saved money to good use;-)
I do not know how you can solve the problem with the grey water, but since you mentioned Biltema, I can recommend Mekonomen. They also have lots of gadgets.
28 March 2021 - 17:45
Helena says:
Yes, what if it had been so good that we saved money during the pandemic year 😉 We have lost income on all cancelled collaborations and also invested a lot in the web shop, so for us the pandemic year has been a rather expensive story unfortunately.

Husis blog says:
How sad that you have to suffer all these inconveniences! What are they going to do with these keys, completely pointless.
Regarding your grey water drainage, is it not possible to always run with it open and instead connect to an electronic opening that you can open from the inside when emptying?
I also find it sad that the insurance company would not replace your batteries if they were damaged, as it was due to the burglary.
All good
28 March 2021 - 18:49
Helena says:
Well, the keys are pretty meaningless to them, but important to us! Truly meaningless! Electronic opening for the grey water, how does it work? Is it a system you buy/install somewhere? Agree that it was sad that the insurance company had not been able to replace the batteries, do not really understand the logic ...?

Burglary and damage, all these things are deadly dull and cannot be fully replaced. Plus there's the feeling that someone has come in and messed with your personal belongings.
I'm quite spared, thankfully, that's disgusting.
Have a nice evening!

Damn, it's so damn boring with burglaries. In addition to the discomfort and cost, you have all the hassle to deal with. It takes a lot of time to deal with insurance companies, to return to the workshop and to clean up. So annoying. Sad for you with the keys.
Great to prepare for a trip.
