Breaking news! Or haha, maybe not on that level, but it is at least fun to tell you. This summer we will publish a magazine! After 12 years as a blog, there will be a physical magazine. It feels really fun, and phew how hard we work!
Table of contents
FREEDOMtravel magazine
FREEDOMtravel magazine will be published the week after Midsummer. The magazine will be distributed together with the magazine "Husbil och Husvagn på väg" and 100,000 copies will be distributed to 600 campsites between Mora and Ystad. At these campsites, the magazine will be available free of charge at the reception desks.
Why a magazine?
The answer to the question of why we publish a magazine is mainly that it feels fun and like the "next step". At the same time, we hope that the magazine can give our blog more visibility, more readers and perhaps also potentially new partners. Of course, it costs a lot of money (6-figure amount) to publish a magazine, so even if we sell advertising space, it is not something we will ultimately make money on.
What should the magazine be about?
In the magazine, we will share travel tips, both for Sweden and Europe. There will also be some other features on mobile life. There will be about 50 per cent editorial material and 50 per cent ads, which is a fairly high proportion of editorial for this type of free magazine. We want it to be worth reading!
How do we make it happen?
There are three people working on the magazine right now: the two of us and Peter's brother Micke. Micke has worked as an advertising salesman all his life, especially for the magazine Vi i Villa, where he was top salesman during the 2000s. As a recent retiree, he wanted to do something new, which he does through his company. Tjälldén Group. So he's the one who works with ad sales in the magazine - and here on the blog, as you may have noticed.
We, Peter and Helena, work with the editorial content, i.e. texts, images, planning and everything else. It's a lot of work and it was really hard. trip that this Ascension Day weekend appeared. For several days now, we have been standing still at the car park in fine Gränna and just worked, worked and worked ...
Do you also like to embark on new crazy projects? Have you ever been involved in publishing a magazine? Maybe you have worked in that industry? Tell us about your experiences!
Hasse says:
What fun, good luck. I am tired of the camping magazines that exist, so a new approach would have been fun to take part in. You will certainly find that level, as you are already a bit on the way. We look forward to this and are happy to contribute if necessary.

Helena says:
Thank you very much Hasse!!!

Mr Thimon says:
You are creative entrepreneurs. It is so nice to see people who dare to invest and not least put in the enormous amount of work required to take the next step. You are worth all the success and I keep my fingers crossed. Good luck to you.

Helena says:
Thanks for the nice words Per! And thank you very much, this is exciting and fun, albeit a bit nervous! 🙂

A little more pink - Cornelia says:
Wow, so funny. As a "retired" journalist with a short history in the newspaper business, I can certainly understand the feeling. There is something very special about holding the printed version of your creation in your hand. Congratulations to you. It's just as fun and scary to take on new things. Wonderful.
16 May 2021 - 8:58
Helena says:
Thank you very much! Yes, I see that you understand!

Matts Torebring says:
A craftsman came to me a few years ago, after I had built a huge garden project with an iron spade, shovel and wheelbarrow, and then almost did it all over again when I was done. Then the craftsman said to me: "Aren't you ever going to row Matts"? We entrepreneurs must always be on the move. When one thing is done, we have to move on. This is a sign of freshness for you. We made our own magazine in 1990, when it was not easy with the repro technology at that time. Today everything is much easier. I just want to congratulate you and wish you good luck.
16 May 2021 - 8:58
Helena says:
Haha, what a story! But you really are an entrepreneur with drive and energy! And it's true that things have progressed in terms of technology!

Nils-Åke+Hansson says:
As a child, I had a free magazine that I sent around in brown A4 envelopes. There were probably a few issues to relatives around Sweden.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
16 May 2021 - 9:20
Helena says:
So there was probably me (Helena) as a child too. Fun to play newspaper 🙂

Arne Lindh says:
Great fun. You are unique in your commitment. It will be fun with a new motorhome and camping magazine. Good luck and greet Micke.
16 May 2021 - 9:31
Helena says:
Thank you very much Arne! And of course we say hello to Micke! (It was not Norrköping this trip, but we will make sure to see you in the future. Would be fun! :))

Helena+from+Finland says:
Wow, very exciting! Would be fun to read but unfortunately there will be no Sweden trip for us this summer. Good luck!
16 May 2021 - 9:35
Helena says:
Yes, we think so too! 😉 No, it will be holidaying in the home country for most people this summer, same for us.
16 May 2021 - 10:37
Ama de casa says:
What fun! You really have new, fun and creative projects going on all the time! Good luck with the magazine 🙂
My experience when it comes to magazines is that I have worked with advert booking systems for newspapers. With programming of such, that is. Yes, I have also read some magazines over the years as well 😉.
16 May 2021 - 9:38
Helena says:
Thank you!!! Yes, we also have some experience in reading magazines 🙂 .

Mr Michael Österman says:
For almost 30 years, I have run, started and worked with advertising-funded local and specialised newspapers as a writer, editor and publisher. A lot of fun! And I also know how hard it can be to get the economy together and not least the fight against the deadline 🙂 Good luck - it's always a pleasure to read your stories!
16 May 2021 - 10:06
Helena says:
Yes, you really have experience with this! We do not have the same experience, so maybe there will be some mistakes along the way, but it is fun and developing! And thank you! 🙂
16 May 2021 - 10:40
The mother of a large child says:
What fun!
I must take part in that magazine. You are so driven and do such good research that I guess the magazine will be really worth reading.
You are also so inspiring and give so many good travel tips and I humbly thank you for that.
Everything you suggest, you want to experience for yourself.
18 May 2021 - 13:33
Husis blog says:
You are then true entrepreneurs who find opportunities in everything, impressive.
It will be both exciting and nice to take part in your upcoming magazine. Many others have more or less been free this weekend, but not Helena and Peter.
I wonder how the employer would have liked that desk space in the bed..😀😀.
All good

Helena says:
I do not really know when we are free ... Fortunately, at least you think it's fun! And the workplace, haha, probably not optimal 😉.

Eva - People in the Street says:
But so much fun! Good luck and I look forward to when I manage to get a copy in my hand. 🙂

Thank you very much Eva!!! 🙂

Solan says:
Just to say good luck! You always take free newspapers with you.
It makes a lot of sense to work with an ad sales professional. Then you can focus on the editorial side of things. Boldly daring, half won! 👍😊

BP says:
Great fun! Congratulations and good luck! I have worked at a publishing house with, among other things, three different trade magazines, but have also made customer magazines in different formats. I know exactly what job it is. But when you hold the product in your hand and smell the printed copy, you are so incredibly proud and think that it was definitely worth the trouble.

I am so impressed by your power, ideas and drive! You are really awesome!
