From Uppland we have travelled, at a relatively fast pace, all the way down to Ystad in Skåne. Being this far from home feels almost exotic in these times. There has been a lot of work over the past week, but now a "holiday" awaits.
Table of contents
Vallonbruk and castles in Uppland
We have often driven past the poppy farms in Uppland, including on the way to and from Peter's mum. We have thought for a long time that we should visit them, and now it became at last of. We visited three major mills, which we have written about. Fantastically nice! We also made a quick stop at Skebo Mill, which was nice but largely private.
At the same time, there were visits to two castles in Uppland. We can highly recommend a visit and guided tour at Salsta Castle. Noor's castle was charming, and nearby we found a nice campsite.
South in Sweden ... and jobs
After our visit to Uppland, we drove south at breakneck speed. We stopped among other things in squid a few days and this time it was mostly to stand still and work. I (Helena) have been holding trainings all week in my job as a public health scientist, and it has been busy.
In addition, we have worked on the blog and on the magazine which we will publish this summer. Next week I (Helena) have taken a holiday from work to finish the magazine. It is approaching the deadline! There may not be so much "holiday" in the usual sense, but at least I will be free from my public health job.
Arriving in Ystad
We have then proceeded to Ystadand now we have arrived at this southern destination in Sweden. Imagine that in these times it almost feels exotic to be this "far" from home! We have a mission here, which we will soon tell you more about. In the meantime, of course, we are taking the opportunity to look around this beautiful place. Do you have any Ystad tips? Feel free to tell us!
Best this week
The best thing about this week is that we got a lot of work done, both with my public health job and with FREEDOMtravel's magazine. In the meantime, we've swished past a lot of exciting destinations - some that we've looked at and others that we hope to see more of soon! What has been the best part of your week?

Beautiful Ystad is one big attraction to stroll around. I don't think we saw anything special during our sporadic visits to the city. Our week feels like a really great week! On Monday we made the final push, emptying and cleaning our garage so it too could be handed over to the new owners. At Tuesday lunch, the motorhome was steered east and now we have spent a couple of days on beautiful Öland. Feels like a new part of our life has started, less musts and more freedom!

As a resident of Ystad, I recommend Ales stenar, the monastery, Maria Church with its tower blower, Per Helsas Gård in the middle of the pedestrian street, Marsvinsholm Castle, the theatre. All with fantastic interiors. The old regimental area with museum.
Skåne also has over 200 castles, where it is well worth a visit to stroll through their lovely parks.

The best thing during the week has been meetings with good friends and that we GET to meet again. Imagine, you actually thought it was a matter of course before this pandemic attacked us ...
Have a nice and happy Friday!

When we were down on the sandy beach, it really felt exotic, haha. Very nice beach! Ok, not so exotic temperature maybe 😉 Great that you get to meet again! Surely there are a lot of things you took for granted before ...

There are many nice places to visit in Skåne so I and the owners look forward to where you go. Even Kalmar can offer nice places to "settle" in.
The best thing about my week is that there was not as much rain as promised.
Have a nice trip!

So you are in Skåne land! Ystad itself is an attraction. We have our favourite Kåseberga and Smygehuk shop for some good food and just be.

So you are on Wallander ground now:-) Great fun! There are several bloggers who have written about Ystad and it seems to be an incredibly nice and charming little "village" with a lot of character.
Wishing you good luck with the magazine. Do you do the layout as well, or do you "only" supply text and images?

Helena says:
Yep, now we're in Wallander territory 🙂 And thank you! No, I don't do the layout. We chose to buy it, so I only send text and images.
