Advising against travelling to Thailand and high pressure in Sörmland

As usual, Monday means travel news here at FREEDOMtravel. We mainly write the news based on press releases that have come during the week. This week it was a little thin in the news flow actually, but of course we have collected some news and there is a continued focus on Sweden as a travel destination.

MFA reintroduces advisory to Thailand

On 22 July 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to amend the existing travel advisory. The decision means that the advice against non-essential travel to Ukraine is cancelled with immediate effect. However, for the Crimean peninsula and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the MFA's advice against all travel remains. At the same time, the advice against non-essential travel to Rwanda and Thailand is reinstated. The decision is partly due to the fact that the EU has removed these countries from the list of countries exempted from the entry ban to the EU. The decision entered into force with immediate effect from 22 July.

Ryanair to stop flying from Skavsta in the autumn

In November, the airline Ryanair will stop flying from Skavsta in Nyköping. This is reported by Södermanlands Nyheter and several other news media. The airline will instead fly from Arlanda, but they may return to Skavsta as early as spring 2022.

High pressure for the tourism industry in Sörmland

The situation in the hospitality industry looks brighter than for a long time, according to a survey conducted by Visit Sörmland among Sörmland's hospitality companies. A continued strong home stay trend means that visitors are happy to look for destinations in the local area, which attracts guests to the companies in Sörmland. Several companies have developed new products and packages, such as hiking packages and ready-made picnic baskets. Many businesses that offer cabin rentals report a summer that is almost fully booked, and the campsites have also reported an increase in the number of visitors, and that more people are now trying to live in tents, motorhomes and caravans.

Åre municipality signs the Fjällen Forever pledge - for a sustainable mountain world.

Härjedalen Municipality, together with Destination Vemdalen, Destination Funäsfjällen and Destination Lofsdalen, launched the sustainability campaign Fjällen Forever earlier this summer, an initiative for everyone to take care of the mountain world. Now Åre municipality is joining the campaign. More and more people are choosing to visit the Swedish mountains and the large number of visitors requires destinations to communicate to guests how they should act to protect sustainable mountains. In a joint communication campaign, the destinations have created an appeal, consisting of a digital pledge that is signed at fjallenforever.se.

Reflection of the week

We have spent the last week in Bulgaria ourselves, and it has almost felt like "business as usual" again. At the same time, the travel news shows a continued focus on Sweden, and the sudden advisory to Thailand also shows that the conditions for travel can change relatively quickly. Of course, it is important to follow the development and either book with a little shorter notice, or have good cancellation protection.
