Båstad with a motorhome - are you welcome? Yes, you can ask yourself that. The feeling in the stomach was not so good and we quickly named the parking space / car park where we stood as the absolute worst parking space of the trip. Men Of course, there are also a lot of nice things to experience in - and especially around - Båstad, so in addition to whining, we also share the positive tips!

Båstad
Båstad is strongly associated with tennis and "Tennis Week", when the Swedish Open in tennis is played here. This week is not only associated with the sport of tennis, but perhaps just as much with celebrities, wild parties and sparkling champagne.
Is Båstad a bit "better" or is it just a stupid prejudice? After all, this is also a picturesque summer resort with beaches, cold bath houses, fish stalls and outdoor cafes. Our first encounter with Båstad was a conversation we overheard between two neighbours of different ages, which ended with a polite "Thank you for the conversation Mrs Borglund (fake name)". We then had reason to return to these neighbours in our minds ...
Båstad is the largest town in Bjäre Peninsula in north-west Skåne. The town is right on the border with Halland, and in fact the eastern parts of the municipality are part of Halland County and the county of Halland.
Båstad with a motorhome - pitches that don't welcome ...
During our motorhome trip in western Skåne, we have usually found good - or at least reasonably good - pitches. Båstad was an exception. When we wanted to check out the town of Båstad itself, we wanted to get close, so we parked at Prästliden's car park/site. There are signposted pitches for motorhomes on sloping, soft grass.
In addition to the risk of getting stuck on a rainy day, you have to pay 240 SEK/day (10 SEK/hour). What services are available? A rubbish bin. You may wonder why you don't free ride instead, but this is effectively discouraged by prohibition signs in both possible and impossible places.
Two Dutch motorhomes were here when we arrived and asked us to help translate the information at the parking machine. They assumed that they had misunderstood. Surely it couldn't cost 240 kroner on a lawn without service? When we confirmed the price, they left. The same with the next motorhome, a Swedish one. "Are you joking? No, let's turn around and go back to Halmstad!”
The next day, when we visited the Båstad tourist office, we asked about it all. "Maybe it's because the residents have complained. They don't want motorhomes here." Hmm, now the feeling in the stomach did not get better. Not only was it expensive and uncomfortable - we were also unwanted. Mrs Borglund - it was probably her and her young neighbour who didn't want us there!
Aren't there any more car parks? J0, there is also a car park at Malenbadet. We have not visited this, but according to the app "Ställplatser" this also costs 240 SEK/day without electricity. In addition, there is actually one in the harbour, for a few motorhomes, but it does not open until September. And according to the tourist office, a lot of things are starting to close already now ... So there you are (maybe) welcome when most things are closed?
Båstad with motorhome - affordable campsites within easy reach
There are also two campsites in Båstad - Norrviken Camping and Båstad Camping - but of course these cannot replace pitches as they are both more than five kilometres from Båstad.
We stayed one night at Norrviken's campsite, which is a Caravan Club campsite. At this campsite they have prepared nice "pitches" for motorhomes. Here you pay 300 SEK / day as a non-member and 250 SEK / day as a member, and then you have access to all services including fresh toilets and showers. Here we thought we stood excellently one night, but it was not from here we planned to visit Båstad.
Even Båstad camping seems to have pitches with humane prices (275 kr/day in high season or 230 kr/day in low season). It feels like Båstad speaks clearly. You should stand with a motorhome at a competent distance and you are (possibly) welcome in the centre ... after a 5 km bike ride!
What can you see and do in Båstad?
Well, we're done whinging anyway! There are of course lots of nice and interesting things to see and experience in Båstad and the surrounding area. Here are our top tips!
1. Hang out in Båstad harbour
Båstad harbour is really charming with red fishing sheds, nice outdoor cafés and lots of boats. Here you can just hang out for a while and soak up the atmosphere, or maybe enjoy an ice cream.
2. Sunbathing and swimming
The sandy beaches in Båstad are nice and there are several different places where you can sunbathe and swim, such as Skansenbadet, Malenbadet and Riviera. There is also the beautiful Båstad cold bath house.
3. Walking in Pershögsskogen forest
Just behind Båstad rises the steep northern slope of Hallandsåsen, and here you can walk in a deciduous forest called Pershögsskogen. The forest is beautiful, although the information sign promising "fantastic views of Båstad" did not materialise ...
4. Stroll among Båstad's fine old houses
Båstad has several streets with charming old houses, such as Agardhsgatan. You can also check out Mariakyrkan, which was inaugurated in 1460.
5. Dine in nice restaurants
We did not take part in the resort's restaurant offerings, but we passed many exclusive entrances and inviting outdoor seating areas. Restaurant Sand, pictured below, tops Tripadvisor's list of restaurants in Båstad.
6. Experience Tennis Week
If you like tennis (or celebrity parties), you won't want to miss the Tennis Week in Båstad. The event is organised every year in July. During this week, around 100,000 people visit the municipality, which only has around 15,000 inhabitants.
7. check out the Tennis Museum
Another thing to do for those who like tennis is to check out the Tennis Museum. This small museum, which was closed when we were here, can be found in the centre of Båstad.
8. See the textile art of Märta Måås-Fjetterström
In Båstad, textile artist Märta Måås-Fjetterström has a studio. During high season, the studio is open for drop-in visitors one day a week.
9. Visit the Birgit Nilsson Museum
One museum we highly recommend is the museum of opera singer Birgit Nilsson. Birgit grew up on a farm outside Båstad, the daughter of a farmer. The museum tells the story of her journey from farmer's daughter to star, with the whole world as her field of endeavour.
10. Walk in the Norrviken gardens
Another attraction you won't want to miss is Norrviken Gardens. This fantastic garden was built in 1906-1920 by Rudolf Abelin. The park is lovely to experience and there is also a restaurant. In the near future you will also be able to visit the Ravinen art gallery here.
11. Take a trip to Torekov.
About 15 kilometres west of Båstad is Torekov, which is also a lovely seaside town. There are boats, restaurants, ice cream parlours and ... cycling people in bathrobes.
12. Enjoy the nature at Hovs halls
On the north-western tip of the Bjäre Peninsula is the Hovs Hallar nature reserve. Here you can enjoy absolutely fantastic nature, with dramatic rock formations. The place is popular, and many people come here to hike, have a picnic or maybe pick blackberries among the bushes.
To sum up, visiting Båstad with a motorhome is not a walk in the park, but the Bjäre Peninsula has a lot of great things to experience and discover! Have you been here, with or without a motorhome? Did you have a similar experience, or are your experiences completely different?

Think they are nice! Was with a friend to Resö with a motorhome (two motorhomes) He was going to the class meeting after about 50 years growing up there.

Not just Båstad!

The big lawn car park is a bit strange. No fun. Yesterday there were several iF, when I passed by. The one in the harbour is also a bit strange, no ordinary sp, The one in the harbour is not agreed between the harbour and the municipality. But during low season you can check in, but may be unlucky and get a car parked outside the door. But the lie is good.
25 August 2021 - 8:50
Helena says:
Yes, I read some comments in the pitch apps that are similar to what you write! It feels like there are many different opinions about this with the pitches ... Yes, during the low season you can certainly stand there. The question is only what is open then?

We have cycled the Bjäre Peninsula around with an overnight stay in Torekov. Recommended! From Kattvik it is a wonderful hill down to Hov's halls (where Death plays chess in The Seventh Seal), here and there you cycle around in small piles of dropped potatoes in the right season. From Torekov you take the boat to Hallands Väderö if you have the time and inclination.
25 August 2021 - 9:02
Helena says:
It sounds nice! 🙂 And the part about Death playing chess in The Seventh Seal, I had no idea about that, interesting! Halland's weather island also sounds like a nice excursion!

Lasse says:
Yes, this hostility towards motorhomes is becoming more and more widespread, we have noticed in recent years. The worst, we think, is in popular tourist resorts where more and more "good people" from the big city are moving in or buying summer homes. A sad development. You almost feel like a criminal the times you happen to visit these places... now we are at the point where we avoid them completely.
25 August 2021 - 18:35
Helena says:
Yes, that may be the case. Now on the west coast of Halland we also see a lot of prohibition signs. Sometimes you don't understand why. Who do you disturb if you are standing in a gravel car park with only forest as a neighbour, for example? Then you can sense a hostility that is boring. Of course, it is more fun to visit places where you feel welcome.

Monica says:
Travelled around by car and there are many beautiful things to see. Recognise most things from all your places but it's been a while since we were south. And my mother-in-law comes from Skåne and with it came family parties, which may be unmentioned😄I am very well behaved and move easily in all contexts but here it was a little different and quite obviously it would be so, and I get more thinking that our country is very elongated😌.
Then I remember that near Sofiero the husband and I sat and had lunch and suddenly a man came and left his female company and tried to dance with me... Time to go... Then mostly an overnight stay when we were on our way to Denmark etc. But Ven is great. And nice to follow you here🙂
The husband studied part of his studies in Malmö and enjoyed that year very much. An idyll compared to today apparently. Keep up the good work on the trip.
25 August 2021 - 19:00
Helena says:
What interesting experiences you have from Skåne!!!! 😉 Agree that Ven is very nice! We have heard that Malmö should also be very nice, even today, but we save such a larger city for some occasion when we have more days on us, and perhaps without a motorhome. Nice to hear that you like to "accompany" us on the trip! 🙂

Båstad is the super week for Stureplansbratsen during the tennis week. It is obvious that the municipality does not want "poor" people with motorhomes/caravans in the centre. Motorhome people do not usually spend thousands of kronor on food and drink ...
I think that's more or less how they think in Båstad.
25 August 2021 - 20:28
Helena says:
Thank you very much!!! 🙂 And yes, it is very possible that this is how they think in Båstad.
26 August 2021 - 19:09

We have experienced the hostility of motorhomes in Båstad, I feel that it is not typical of the little one to bark, like my little terrier. I hope Båstad survives on tennis and boat tourism. We spend where we are welcome.

Helena says:
Yes, it is more fun to travel where you feel welcome. We will hardly return to Båstad, even though there are many nice and pleasant things in the surroundings.
