How do you decorate your patio to make it cosy? Our patio is located in the bow of our houseboat, where you can be lulled to sleep by the soft rocking and hear the charming sounds of boating around you. Yet we've never quite got the cosiness factor right ...

Our patio today
The bow of our houseboat is our patio and we have the following furniture: A large heavy stone table and six chairs with folding backs. What about the barbecue? No, Peter threw it out a while ago when he got tired of it being so difficult to grill out there in the wind anyway.
Sometimes we "reorganise" and this usually involves putting the table lengthwise, or crosswise ... and then perhaps lengthwise again. Sometimes a bicycle is left on the deck as well. Right now we have: stone table, six chairs, Peter's electric trike, no grill. That´s it.
One advantage of the large, heavy table is that it stands firm, no matter how much it storms and rocks. We attach the chairs with straps/snakes in autumn and winter. We don't have a lot of storage space, so this is a factor we have to take into account. Things that can't be left outside in the winter - where do we put them?
Anyway, we find our patio on the deck a bit boring. It's simply a bit uncomfortable. Even though the environment is fantastic in a way, we rarely hang out there, which is a shame!
Flood us with ideas for decorating the patio
From time to time we talk about remodelling the patio, but then nothing happens. Maybe because we don't know bet we should do? So, do you have any fun, exciting or creative ideas for us? Feel free to shower us!
But first, I'll tell you a little bit about our dreams and wishes (although we don't really know how to put them together). We use pictures from FAVI furniture and interior design search engine - It's handy because you can search for all kinds of furniture and furnishings, regardless of which store the products are sold in.
Dream #1: Cosy armchairs
We are looking for something really cosy to sit/lay/relax in. How will this huge lounge sofa fit on our patio? How will it fit with our practical stone table? No, we don't have an answer to that... Now we're just dreaming!
Dream 2: A swing
We don't really know how to achieve this on our patio, but it looks so incredibly cosy and relaxing with swings. Also, I always wonder what happens when both the swing and the boat are moving at the same time ... does the swing stay still? This type of swing is available both for hanging from the ceiling and with a stand for standing on the floor or ground.
Dream 3: Textiles and decoration
Finally, it feels like you need some textiles and decoration to get that cosy factor. Cushions and placemats in warm colours? Maybe some fun or personalised decoration...? The only limit is your imagination, they say. We put in some outdoor decorating ideas from Favi to start thinking outside the box!
More ideas for decorating the patio
We welcome more ideas for decorating the patio! Our patio is nice, but a bit stiff... Do you have a patio yourself? How have you decorated it?
Frido says:
There is a kind of pole that can be screwed to both ends of the table (with clamps), the pole runs across the table and you can then hang lamps or other decorations that "frame" the table.Maybe available at hornbach. Not sure. Good luck to you
