Sweden's campsites increase occupancy rates
New statistics from SCB/Tillväxtverket show that the number of guest nights at Sweden's campsites through July has increased by 11 per cent compared to 2020, according to a press release from SCR Swedish Camping. In total, almost 5.3 million guest nights were registered in July 2021 and the industry is thus the largest Swedish tourist accommodation in July 2021 as well. The markets that increased the most were Germany and the Netherlands.
Record turnover for First Camp in August
First Camp, Scandinavia's largest camping chain, had a record turnover in August. The total turnover for the entire First Camp increased by 12 per cent compared to August 2019, before the pandemic, and this was the best August month ever.
Camptoo joins forces with competitor Out2Camp
The Dutch company Camptoo launched its camping vehicle sharing service in Sweden during the summer. They are now merging with former competitor Out2Camp, which has a fleet of 400 motorhomes and caravans in Sweden and Denmark. The goal is to become the leading camping service in Sweden by offering a fleet of over 1000 different camping vehicles in Sweden by the end of 2022.
Last minute tickets back on SJ for students, young people and pensioners
During the pandemic, there have been no last-minute tickets on SJ, but now the opportunity to travel a little cheaper for students, young people and pensioners is reopening. Last-minute tickets are available on all lines from Monday to Thursday, but the number and price vary. Last minute tickets can be purchased no earlier than 24 hours before departure.
SJ introduces a new offer on all fast trains - 2 Class Lugn
On 15 September, SJ will introduce a new offer on all express trains. In terms of comfort and price, the new offer will be between 2 and 1 class and has been named "2 klass Lugn". In 2 Class Calm, calls will be made in a muffled voice, all electronics will be on silent and headphones will be used at a volume that does not disturb other travellers. It also includes a simple breakfast on departures before 9am and coffee or tea from the bistro throughout the journey.
New start for SJ's direct trains to Copenhagen on 13 September
On 13 September, SJ will start running 2-3 express trains daily in each direction between Stockholm and Copenhagen. Traffic will gradually increase during the autumn. From 13 September, together with Öresundståg, travellers will have ten daily departures to choose from. Stockholm and Copenhagen. Currently, Swedes can enter Denmark without restriction with a covid certificate, or under other conditions if they are Swedish and do not have a covid certificate.
Reflection of the week
The camping industry is doing well! This is positive, but sometimes we would like to hear how it gives back to us consumers. We eagerly await press releases that are not only about profits, but also about initiatives to increase customer satisfaction, well-being or sustainability, for example.

Ditte says:
We have used last minute trains in the past and did so last week. Trains suit me well. Often choose first class where it is quiet and good with space and good comfort. There are also quiet departments there. But also good now with this quiet class.
Glad that it went well for the campsite but it is not for me. I have tried some at a younger age but it was a long time ago.

Trains are a nice way to travel, if the conditions are right, I think! If I understand it correctly, the silent compartments in class 1 will now disappear and be replaced by this new class.

Ama de casa says:
Sounded good with a quiet "middle class". Just hope that people respect it, has been a little so and so with that thing when we chose placement in "quiet wagons".
Have a great start to the week!

Yes, it is interesting to see how well the calm class works, and how well it is respected.

Daniel on FlyingDryden says:
2 class Lugn can probably be good, especially when child discounts (and other things) are removed. However, it is not entirely clear what the breakfast on the departures before 09 actually means. According to SJ's web, it is a "simpler breakfast" but according to SJ on Twitter, it is the same breakfast as in 1 class but that instead of being served at your seat (as in 1 class) you have to pick it up in the bistro. It will be exciting to see how the "offer" is received. I myself have kept the SJ 1 class silent department on SJ 3000 as the best train product we have in Sweden and yes, a little sad that it now disappears.
I also wrote about 2 Class Calm myself a few days ago, if anyone wants to read a review. 🙂 https://www.dryden.se/2021/09/2-klass-lugn-har-ar-sjs-nya-produkt/

Good for the camping industry! I'd love to know how the hotel industry is doing, not to mention the airline industry.

Now we hope for a reaction from the camping industry ... hope they report back on something other than profits. Especially how customer satisfaction develops during years when all campsites have been almost full again...
