Czech Republic - one of our favourite countries

The Czech Republic is probably one of the most thoroughly explored countries in Europe. We've been here several times with our motorhome, travelling from west to east and north to south. We've also been here on a few press and blog trips, focusing on everything from spas and castles to nature and music festivals.

The Czech Republic is really a favourite country for us. There is such beautiful nature, such cosy cities and such beautiful historical buildings. Also good food, good beer and fine white wines. And the prices are good, not to mention!

What will we do in the Czech Republic now?

When the Czech Tourist Board asked us to join them on a press trip, we were very excited that the trip would go to destinations where we actually not been before. This time we will visit Northern Bohemia (Bohemia) with a focus on nature and glassworks. We are, as far as we know, travelling with some journalists and tour operators.

What is on the programme?

Here you can see some of the places and activities on the programme, accompanied by some images from Pixabay.

1. Bohemian Paradise and Prachovske Rock Labyrinth

Bohemian Paradise is a dramatic natural area in the north of the Czech Republic, with high cigar-like rock formations. It includes the Prachovsje Rock Labyrinth, which is formed from sandstone. The area is very popular with both hikers and climbers.

2. Glassworks with Christmas baubles - a UNESCO World Heritage Site

We will go to the region around Krkonoše (Giant Mountains), which is also in the north of the Czech Republic. Here we will visit, among other things, the glassworks rough icewhich has been inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible World Heritage List for its production of Christmas baubles. Amazing, isn't it?

3. Jizerka and Jizerké Mountains

Jizerka is said to be both picturesque and at the highest point in the Czech Republic.

4. liberec

Just over an hour away from Prague by car is the historic city of Liberec. This town flourished industrially in the 19th century, and today it is a starting point for hiking in the Jizerka Mountains. In winter, skiing is also popular here.

5. Cable car to the top of Ještěd Mountain

At the top of Ještěd Mountain is something that almost looks like a spacecraft, a building that serves as both a hotel and a TV transmitter. We are going to take a cable car up (which I think is so It's scary, but you just have to brace yourself!) and at the top, dinner and views await.

6. Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou is a town where stonemasons and jewellers used to come to learn their craft back in the 17th century. Not far away is the village of Jiřetín pod Bukovou, where Daniel Swarovski was born. Today this is a centre for jewellery, but also a gateway to several ski slopes and hiking and cycling trails.

7. Lusatian Mountains

The Lusatian Mountains are said to offer beautiful views, close to the border with Germany. There is also a famous glassblower nearby, and we will visit Pačinek Glass.

8. panská Skála

Panská Skála is a nature conservation site in the Liberec region of the Czech Republic. This is a 30-metre-high formation located 597 metres above sea level, consisting of systematically arranged stone pillars, formed by volcanic activity.

9. Sloup Castle

Sloup Castle is a kind of rock castle with a very special appearance.

10. New discoveries in Prague

Finally, we plan to visit Prague. We will do this outside the press trip, so we will stay here on our own. We have visited Prague before, but we feel that we have missed a lot in this exciting city and want to explore a bit more. The tourist office has also helped us to book a food tour, which we are really looking forward to!

Do you want to follow the journey?

We will try to update this blog during the trip but it will be a hectic programme, so the updates may be short. Sometimes we might also have to alternate with something we've already finished writing - for example a post from our motorhome trip in Sweden (we still haven't told you everything!).

You are also welcome to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. On Instagram we alternate pictures with stories and reels. And note! Even if the "intro text" is in English, we always write in Swedish first!
