Excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula are what it's all about today. At the risk of repeating ourselves a little - we have already written about Båstad - we thought we would list a number of really nice experiences on the Bjäre Peninsula in Skåne.
Table of contents
Bjäre Peninsula
The Bjäre Peninsula is located in north-west Skåne, between Laholmsbukten and Skälderviken. Most of the peninsula belongs to Båstad municipality, and the southernmost part belongs to Ängelholm municipality. One thing we didn't know is that 75 per cent of all Swedish fresh potatoes are grown here.
Tips on some excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula
Here are tips on a number of nice excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula. Some of the places we have written about before, and then we only write briefly and refer with a link to previous reports.
1. Hovs Hallar and Bjärekustens nature reserve
The Bjäre Coast Nature Reserve extends along the northern part of the Bjäre Peninsula. Here, high primeval mountains, such as Hovs Hallar and Knösen, rise and fall steeply into the sea.
At Hovs Hallar there is a large car park with toilets and paths down to the sea. There is also a hotel with catering facilities. But you can't stay with your motorhome in the car park overnight, unfortunately.
The landscape at Hovs Hovs Hallar is quite barren, with dramatic cliffs interspersed with pebble fields. The views are absolutely stunning!
You can come here to hike if you like, for example along the Skåneleden trail. Sometimes birdwatchers also gather here, especially when the winds blow in rare seabirds from the Atlantic. In addition, we saw many who just came here with a picnic basket, or to pick berries.
2. Torekov
Torekov is another nice destination on the Bjäre Peninsula. Originally a fishing village, today the charming little town is characterised by tourism, at least in the summer.
The small harbour in Torekov is full of small boats, both motor boats and sailing boats.
The harbour area is described as a gathering place in Torekov. The piers here were once the base for a thriving herring fishery. Parts of the Maritime Museum are now located here, with the buildings Skjulet and Kajutan, as well as the cannons and signal mast.
In the summer there are plenty of places that sell ice cream and after some decision making we bought ours at Café Varvet. It was not very cheap, but it was very good!
Of course, what you also do in Torekov is swimming. There are both sandy beaches and piers and if you want to do as the locals do - well then you come in a bathrobe! This tradition is so well-established that we even saw an art exhibition about it at the centre. Abecita Pop Art & Photography in Borås.
You can also notice a large stone named St Thora's Stone. According to legend, the three Danish royal children Thora, Arild and Gille were sent out to sea by their wicked stepmother after she asked a skipper to get rid of them. All the children drowned and Thora washed ashore here, while the bodies of her brothers floated ashore in Arild on the Kulla Peninsula and in Gilleleje in Denmark.
3. Hallands Väderö
From Torekov it is possible to make an excursion to the small island of Hallands Väderö. Meteorological traffic is by m/s Nanny and m/s Sund and the crossing takes about 20 minutes. During the summer there is a kiosk and café in the island's harbour, Sandhamn. In addition to regular tours back and forth, it is possible to book a guided tour or a seal safari.
4. Gardens of Norrviken
Norrviken Gardens, located outside Båstad in Skåne, was built in the late 19th century by gardening enthusiast Rudolf Abelin. Today this is a fantastic park with a range of fascinating style gardens, a restaurant and even activities for children. One of many wonderful excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula!
5. Båstad
Båstad has a cosy harbour, where there are plenty of restaurants and outdoor cafés. Båstad also has several sandy beaches and a nice cold bathing centre. If you like tennis, there is of course the Tennis Week, an event in July every year that usually gathers around 100,000 people.
6. Birgit Nilsson Museum
The Birgit Nilsson Museum tells the story of the farmer's daughter who became an opera singer and world star. This is a poignant and very interesting museum, located on the farm where the singer once grew up.
7. Vineyards
On the Bjäre Peninsula there are several Swedish vineyardssuch as Vejby Vineyard, Ljungbyholm Vineyard and Thora Vineyard. At several of the vineyards, visits and tastings can be arranged. Please contact the wineries for enquiries/bookings in advance.
8. Ängelholm
Ängelholm is a nice little town located just south of the Bjäre Peninsula. The Rönne River winds through the town and there is also a nice neighbourhood park with a restaurant, playgrounds and a high-altitude track. The town also houses the Railway Museum and the Aviation Museum.
More excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula
Of course, there are more excursions on the Bjäre Peninsula than those we have listed in this post. For example, you can go to Dagshög, which is Skåne's largest burial mound. Right next to this is the quarry ruin, which is a memory of the quarrying that took place in the early 1900s.
The Bjäre Peninsula is also good for fishing. For example, you can catch salmon, flatfish, mackerel, cod, saithe, crab and lobster. It is also popular for cycling and golf.
Where on the Bjäre Peninsula can you park your motorhome?
Of course, it is wonderful with all the excursion destinations on the Bjäre Peninsula, but where can you stay overnight with your motorhome? Our experience was that it is difficult to free camp here because there are prohibition signs everywhere. Båstad has a few sites, but one is closed in high season and one is sloping, has a soft surface, lacks service and is expensive. The third has no service and is expensive.
A better option might be to stay at a campsite. Both Norrviken camping and Båstad camping have affordable options for motorhomes. In addition, there is a nice site at the harbour in Ängelholm.

More to see and do in the vicinity of the Bjäre Peninsula
In addition to Ängelholm, the Kulla Peninsula is relatively close, with Höganäs, Mölle, Nimis and Kullaberg Nature Reserve. It is also not far to the nice and pleasant city of Helsingborg. If you instead travel north, you can go to Mellbystrand in Laholm municipality. Mellbystrand is mainly known for its 12 kilometres of sandy beach. Nice and pleasant, although we were surprised that cars are parked in the middle of the beach.
