By the time you read this, we will already be in Tunisia. The trip is a press trip organised by the Tunisian Tourist Board and we will explore cities, archaeological sites, golf, wine and everything else!

Tunisia - a country we've been waiting to visit
Tunisia is a country we have been waiting to visit for a long time. The Tunisian tourist office is usually present at trade fairs, and for many years we have heard presentations about fantastic historical sights, Tunisian wine and all sorts of other exciting things. Over the years, we became more and more curious and 2020 was the year we agreed on a press trip together with the Tunisian Tourist Board.
Everything was planned down to the smallest detail, I (Helena) had taken a holiday and we had packed our suitcases. One day before departure, we had to cancel the entire trip due to the pandemic ... Now the trip is finally happening, and it feels fantastic!
What is on the programme?
Here you can see some of the places and activities on the programme, accompanied by some images from Pixabay. We know from experience that programmes on these types of trips tend to change, but this gives us some ideas of what we might see and do...
The city of Tunis and its medina
We will start by visiting the capital Tunis and its medina, the old city centre. Here we will also discover archaeological sites such as Carthage.
Golf and wine
Two things that are big in Tunisia, we understand, are golf and wine. We're not golfers (Peter says he's afraid of getting "stuck", that it would be too much fun and take too much time), but we've learnt to appreciate the fact that the golf venues are often breathtakingly beautiful, both abroad and in Sweden. And wine? Well, we like that!
Tozeur
We will visit a city called Tozeur, and here we will check out a location where Star Wars was filmed. We love Star Wars, and are currently rewatching all the films from the beginning, so I promise we're excited...!
Douz and Matmata
We will also visit the town of Douz and Matmata, where there are apparently interesting caves. There is also supposed to be fantastic scenery nearby.
Island with synagogue
Towards the end of the trip we will visit an island on the east coast, with a synagogue and a museum. Sounds like an exciting place!
Do you want to follow the journey?
We will try to update here on the blog during the trip, but as usual during press trips it is difficult to find the time. We have some pre-written posts that we will present during the trip, and some reports will have to wait until we get home.
If you want even more 'here and now' updates, feel free to follow us on Instagram. There we alternate pictures with stories and reels. And note! Even if the "intro text" is in English, we always write in Swedish first!
And you, have you been to Tunisia? Please tell us about your experiences!

Love Star Wars and would love to visit all the filming locations but this one still feels like one of the coolest places. Take lots of pictures! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Exciting and, as usual, a packed schedule 🙂 !
I've been to Tunisia once, but it was during the Christmas holidays in 1972, so the information I could provide is probably not very current 😀.
Have a great trip!

Helena says:
Yes, press trips always have a tight schedule, so to speak 😉 It sounds like an exciting Christmas holiday in 1972! Guess a lot has changed, but it still sounds interesting to hear about your experience from that trip!!!

Ditte says:
Great fun! Known places for me after the time when I worked here - Maybe it is to the island of Djerba you should make a visit. Wish you nice days and a lot to see and experience it will definitely be. But a packed schedule in a short time I think it is probably to have time to take in everything.
Wishing you really rewarding and fun days.

Helena says:
Yes, it's a bit packed, as usual on trips like this. And thank you! We will return with reports! 😍👍

BP says:
Exciting! I wonder how the Tunisian caves compare to the Turkish ones. This also applies to the food.
Have a wonderful time, because in Tuinisien it will be at least 20 degrees warmer than here, not to mention that it won't rain there;-).
27 October 2021 - 20:11
Helena says:
We get to do cave dreams 😝 And yes, it is much warmer!!! (Although we have actually had some rain 😜).

Julia & Micke says:
Great that you are finally there!
We love Tunisia! We've been there twice with the campervan and are actually heading there again at the beginning of November 😁!
The last time we were there, in 2019, my husband was training to participate in one of the biggest camel races during the big festival "International festival of the Sahara" in Douz.
More about it on Instagram: the.swedish.camel.rider
Have a wonderful time in Tunisia!
With kind regards, Julia and Micke

I hope you have time for the marvellous Sidi-Bou-Said outside Tunis even though you haven't listed it. The first photo seems to be from there.
Also in Matmata, the first Star Wars was filmed. It was a pretty cool place I remember from 1979. I wonder what it's like today. I remember visiting chameleons in Gabon on the way to Douz too.

Helena says:
Yes, we have visited Sidi Bou Said! What a fantastic charming place 😍
