Horse riding in Cappadocia
Horse riding in Cappadocia is a wonderful experience, not least because the environment and surroundings in this area are absolutely stunning. In fact, the name 'Cappadocia' means 'Land of Beautiful Horses' in Persian.
Cemal Ranch
We rode in a place called Cemal Ranch, located in the heart of Cappadocia, just a few minutes from the village of Ortahisar. This farm is in an excellent location to experience beautiful valleys, traditional villages and special rock formations, which are typical of the area.
We were welcomed, given a horse and a helmet each. A young boy then accompanied us on foot during the ride. We chose a 2-hour tour that took place during sunset. Other options are to choose tours that take one hour or four hours.
Horse riding in Cappadocia - a 2 hour ride at sunset
I (Helena) got to ride first, and all the time had a view of an amazingly beautiful landscape. All three horses were very calm and really no riding skills are required to join horse riding in Cappadocia. The horses enjoy being together and just follow each other. The only thing that usually happens if you are an inexperienced rider is that the horse takes the chance to munch some grass or leaves from time to time.
Taking photos while sitting in the saddle is a bit tricky, but we all tried to get the mobile phone camera out from time to time. Below you can see a picture of Peter from FREEDOMtravel and our travelling companion Charlotte from Go Travelling in Denmark.
After a short ride, we arrived at a place where we could watch the sunset from the front row.
We tied our horses to a tree and walked down to the viewpoint.
View of the sunset
The place where you could watch the sunset was almost equipped like a cinema! There was a small drinks bar as well as seats on the rock with mats and cushions.
We each bought a drink and found a place to sit, overlooking the sunset.
The view was absolutely stunning! We understand that this place was equipped as a cinema. Better than a film, for sure!
Do you see the girl in the yellow clothes on the rock formation?
Slowly the sun sank, and after a while the guy who joined us during our horse riding in Cappadocia, asked if we were ready to leave? Well ...? Can you be? Can you get ready to leave this?
We mounted up and continued riding through the last rays of the sun, past vines and fields of yellow pumpkins. Finally we were back at Cemal Ranch and thanked our horses for a great ride!
