Summer record for guest nights in Linköping - despite the pandemic!

Summer 2021 will go down in history as a record summer for Linköping's hotels, cottages and hostels. The number of guest nights hit a new record for the three months of the summer when 193,006 guest nights were made in Linköping. July was also the single best month ever for guest nights in Linköping municipality. There were 86,705 guest nights.

Friluftsfrämjandets reaches the highest membership rate of the millennium. 

More and more people are joining organised outdoor activities, and Friluftsfrämjandet is noticing this. During its membership year, it has increased by 3.3 per cent and now has 112,116 members, the highest figure in the 2000s. The biggest increase is in individual adult memberships, at 10.3 per cent. Regionally, the increase is greatest in Friluftsfrämjandet Region South at 6 per cent, followed by Region Mälardalen and Region North, each with a 4 per cent increase in members.

Ryanair launches flights to Venice

Ryanair continues its expansion at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. At the end of the month, Ryanair will open a base with initially two aircraft and twenty new routes to Europe. At the same time, they introduce domestic flights to Gothenburg and Malmö, and in early December also Skellefteå. Now they are adding another European route. Starting on 29 March 2022, Ryanair will fly Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) twice a week.

More low-cost flights to France from Arlanda

The French low-cost carrier Transavia France has previously launched routes to Montpellier and Paris Orly. Now they are expanding at Stockholm Arlanda with another route to France - to the country's third largest city, Lyon. Lyon is often called the capital of gastronomy and is located in south-eastern France, close to the French Alps and several ski resorts. The route Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) - Lyon-Saint Exupéry (LYS) will be flown one day/week from 29 January to 16 April 2022.

SJ restarts traffic to Oslo

SJ will resume services between Stockholm and Oslo from 12 December. The Norwegian government, together with Norwegian authorities, has announced that passenger train traffic will be allowed across the Norwegian border from 6 October. At present, there are no entry restrictions from Sweden to Norway, after the latest restrictions in Norway were lifted. However, as a traveller, you are encouraged to find out what requirements and rules of conduct apply in the country you are travelling to, keep yourself updated and follow the rules of the local authorities.

Fairy tale Christmas at Kolmården

On 27 November, Kolmården will once again open its doors to a magical winter world filled with Christmas spirit and adventure - for both young and old. Here children can meet Santa Claus, visit the trolls in Trollskogen and greet Bamse in his Christmas-decorated Småköping. This year you can also go ice skating on the new ice rink in Vinterdalen and take part in the exciting Christmas gift hunt. Sagojul is open all four Advent weekends at 11-19. Tickets must be pre-booked online on Kolmården's website.

Reflection of the week

The airline industry is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and every week there is news of new routes. But it also feels like Sweden and Swedish nature continue to be right on time!
