Europe's longest zipline course is in Sweden, deep in the forests of Småland. Isn't it fascinating? We went to Sweden Zipline, Little Rock Lake with the motorhome, and Peter went on an adventure above the tree tops. What a cool experience!
Table of contents
Europe's longest zipline
Europe's longest zipline is a total of 4.6 kilometres long and consists of four different courses.
Sweden Zipline and Little Rock Lake are located at Klavreström, in the Glasriket region of Småland, just under 5 kilometres northeast of Växjö.
Sweden Zipline Base Camp
Sweden Zipline is open all year round, and after booking your tour, you can get to Little Rock Lake Base Camp. You drive along a long forest road until you reach the facility, which is located on a hill overlooking a lake.
Here you'll find beautiful wooden buildings that blend in with nature and cool characters that give the place a slightly magical feel. High above it all are two mighty towers connected by a 25-metre long and 20-metre high suspension bridge.
Indoors there is a nice little restaurant - which in these times has been reduced to a simple service with drinks and coffee - and outdoors there are tables and seating and a four-metre deep rock pool, which is filled with water from the bedrock. There's a swimming ladder and a diving board, and we're guessing it's a popular place to take a dip on hot summer days.
We visited in November and it was cold, but beautiful. Base Camp is the starting point for Europe's longest zipline but from here you can also find hiking trails, wilderness trails for children and places to stay in tents or wilderness camps. Little Rock Lake also offers things like survival courses and adventures in the Getaryggarna Nature Reserve.
Getting ready for a ride on Europe's longest zipline
Then it was time to get ready for a trip with Europe's longest zipline. I (Helena) am afraid of heights and had decided to stay on the ground this time. Many people say that it's only the first "step into the air" that feels hard, and that it's great afterwards. Well, maybe? This time it still felt good to stay with my feet on the ground, but who knows, maybe I'll try the zipline some other time?
Peter had dressed in warm clothes for the day - we were here in mid-November, after all - and then borrowed the other equipment needed. He was given a helmet, safety harness, gloves and a shoulder bag to store his mobile phone in.
Before it was time to go for real, there was practice on the ground. The instructors showed the position of the rope, how to hold hands, how to brake and what to do if you need help to get to the end. After the exercise, the group went up to the tower, where the adventure starts.
Tower and suspension bridge at Base Camp
For me, who is afraid of heights, it was mostly nice to stay on the ground when the others went up the 20 metre high tower and stepped out onto the swaying suspension bridge.
Peter, on the other hand, enjoyed the view of the forests and the lake, and took the opportunity to pull his mobile phone camera out of his shoulder bag.
By zipline over the treetops
The very first ride was between the two towers, and for Peter, he ended up not making it. really all the way to the front. He had, without realising it, pressed the brake a little too much. "Then you have to turn round and help with your hands the last little bit.
Then it was time for the next turn ... and the next! And now he had a much better feel for how much speed you need to get there at just the right speed.
The scenery is stunning, and from the top of Europe's longest zipline you can get a bird's eye view while getting an adrenaline rush. You can reach a maximum speed of 72 metres per hour. Good speed then! At each intermediate station you can read information about the length, height and speed of the route.
I (Helena) got a lift with the owner to some places on the road, where I could meet Peter as he came whizzing over the treetops. I promise he had a big smile all over his face. "Soooo much fun! Soooo much fun!", was the only thing he could get out.
I was also there when the owner met up at the last station, "Happy Ending!", to drive the group back to Base Camp. And indeed it looked like Happy Ending always! A real adventure that can be recommended to anyone who wants a nature experience and a big dose of adrenaline at the same time!

More to see and do in the neighbourhood
Sweden Zipline is located in a natural area with nice hiking trails. Some places worth visiting that are recommended by the zip company itself are the forest area Rocky Forest, Lake Värgöl and the nature reserve Libbhult's meadows. We can also recommend a visit to cosy Vidinge farm, from where you can go fishing, cycling or perhaps go on an adventure with a packraft (inflatable kayak).
If you like animals, there are plenty of safari and moose parks in the area. Of course, Glasriket also offers experiences in the form of glass blowing i Kosta, visits to glassworks and art exhibitions. You can also visit something as special as a still... functioning hand-paper mills.

I understand that you want to be on the ground when you are afraid of heights. Otherwise it is super fun with zipline. We visited Våxtorp in April 2015 and rode their zip, which was 640m and came up to 70km, so much fun.

It's so much fun to rush over the treetops. My work friends and I went to Sörsjön's adventure park outside Norrköping earlier this year. Even those who were a little afraid of heights were blissful afterwards.
We looked as happy as Peter when we went out over Sörsjön.
