Extraordinary, crazy or on the verge of Christmas chaos? Call it what you will. Here are 3 restaurants in Athens whose Christmas decorations have taken on a whole new dimension and will probably make you fall over backwards in amazement.
Athens is not usually the first city in Europe that comes to mind when it comes to spectacular Christmas decorations. But in fact, maybe it should be. The Greek capital takes Christmas decorations very seriously and some places take it more seriously than others. To the point where there is no longer a border to speak of.
1. Little Kook
Little Kook wins first prize when it comes to magnificent Christmas decoration. Not only on the spectacular exterior with thousands of decorations and light installations, but also in every little corner of the interior. There's complete Christmas chaos inside the walls of this place and it's hard to find a millimetre of space without Christmas decorations.
You might even have to dodge baubles, gnomes and garlands when you step inside the door. Of course, the staff are also part of the spectacle and you'll be served hot chocolate, crepes and Christmas desserts by Santa's own elves. 2nd Kings Theatre & Wine bar
The Kings Theatre & Winebar should also receive some sort of award for its efforts to promote the Christmas spirit in Athens. The magnificent exterior, with the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty in the centre, has been decorated with thousands of lights, baubles and tinsel. Inside, you're greeted by beautiful giant angels and so much light and glitter that you almost think you've arrived in heaven.

Fairytale
... and the award for the most fairytale-like atmosphere undoubtedly goes to the Fairytale café in the Nea Filadelfia neighbourhood. Here, Christmas decorations are mixed with fairy tale characters from famous Disney tales and fantasy films. The environment, which is fairytale-like regardless of the season, is of course extra magical at Christmas, when the fairy godmother waves her magic wand and adds some extra glitter, red bows and baubles.
The menu includes fabulous desserts and pastries that are known to be served in enormous sizes. How on earth are the Disney princesses supposed to eat all that, you might ask? Read more about my visit here: Fairytale a magical fairytale café in Athens

OMG! I take back everything, everything I ever said about Christmas decorated houses in the US. These probably beat anything I've seen before.
What work they put into the decorations, especially Little Kook who decorates for every special day. Absolutely incredible:-)
