2021 was a strong year for mobile living
In 2021, a total of 8 935 vehicles (57 % motorhomes) were registered for mobile accommodation in Sweden. Sales of caravans and motorhomes increased despite problems with deliveries. "The holiday trend is strong and many people realise that mobile accommodation is a climate-smart alternative", says Lars-Erik Hörmander, Chairman of the Swedish Caravan Industry Association.
In early 2022, we can unfortunately expect further impact from the pandemic. The world's logistics chains are in imbalance and this affects all industries with problems in obtaining products. "Order your vehicle in time is an advice I would like to give", Lars-Erik Hörmander concludes.
Slightly positive development in hotels - but strong concerns
Despite new restrictions, an improved level of revenue for Swedish hotels was noted in December compared to previous months. This is according to new data from Benchmarking Alliance analysed by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
"It is a fragile sector and even though the end of the year was decent, there are well-founded concerns. We know that the tourism industry is very negatively affected by the restrictions and therefore it would be valuable to have a normalisation with a flattened infection curve", says Stefan Westerberg, Chief Economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
SkiStar and SOK in co-operation: getting more people moving all year round!
In the run-up to the Olympics, SkiStar and the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) are working together to publicise the Olympic Games while offering activities and challenges for children and adults at SkiStar's destinations in Sälen and Åre. Already this winter, the "Olympic Challenge" is being introduced in Åre and Sälen, where families can try different Olympic sports. In the summer, Olympic training camps will be launched at SkiStar in Sälen for young people.
Göta Canal is looking for 100 summer workers
Do you want the most summery job of the year? Then it's time to apply for seasonal work as a lock keeper along the Göta Canal. A different job in the middle of a Swedish summer idyll. "We can promise a different kind of job with wonderful colleagues and holidaymakers from Sweden, Europe and other parts of the world," says Magnus Hollwin, Marketing and Communications Manager at the Göta Canal. You must be 18 years old before starting your job, but there are also lock keepers who are 60 years old.
The world's biggest orienteering event heads to the mountains in 2023
The O-Ring, the world's largest orienteering competition, takes place during week 30 in a new location every year. The competition brings together about 125 classes and normally over 18,000 participants between the ages of 5 and 95, from beginners to world elite. Holiday Club Åre steps in as a partner to O-Ringen 2023 and thus becomes the central hub for the O-Ringen square and hotel accommodation throughout the event. O-Ringen 2023 takes place on 23-29 July in Åre. The accommodation packages will be released for booking on 24 July 2022.
Cinema on four wheels and colour change as BMW showcases future technology
For the first time, a new BMW model will make its world debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with the presentation of the BMW iX M60. But the BMW Group is also presenting a range of new innovations, such as:
- Home cinema on four wheels means that the rear of the interior is transformed into a private cinema with an advanced surround sound system, 31-inch panoramic screen and curtains that roll down the windows.
- Change the exterior at the touch of a button - The BMW iX Flow becomes the first car in the world whose exterior colour can be changed at the touch of a button.
Reflection of the week
Home cinema in the car and changing the exterior colour at the touch of a button! Wow, it feels like the future is here! Otherwise, there were few press releases about travel this week. It is clear that the world is affected by the pandemic.

Anders would probably like a home cinema in the back seat. Then he would be able to sit alone in the front seat and drive without "help" from me 😉.
Have a great start to the week!

BP says:
It is not surprising that the motorhome and caravan market has flourished in recent years. However, what would surprise me is if the fair in Kista takes place. I really hope so for all "inveterate" campers and not least for you who will be giving lectures.
The BMW with built-in cinema - all right, especially if you have kids in the car. But how the f*ck does it work to change the paint colour of the car at the touch of a button. I do not understand the point, but I guess you can pretend to have a brand new car every day - to the chagrin of the neighbours;-)
