A week has passed in the new year. Our new year started (apart from one day of migraine) with museum visits, varied meals and a big bucket of lobsters. Happy Friday!

New Year celebrations in the houseboat

We were supposed to celebrate New Year's with friends, but as they got a cold, we cancelled the meeting and celebrated by ourselves at home in the the houseboat instead. Sad to cancel of course, but we still had a nice evening at home.

For dinner we had venison fillet and baked root vegetables. The lobster soup that we would have had as a starter we had to save for another day - we realised that there had been far too much food!

At 12 o'clock we could see lots of fireworks from our houseboat, both over Kungsholmen and on the piers in the marina.

Museum visit to Djurgården

During the first week of the year, we visited several museums on Djurgården. We have an ambition to eventually see all of the capital's museums and we take one at a time, when we have time to spare. Fun and interesting! From this week's visit there has been one report so far:

Meals from the first week of the year

The year has started with a variety of meals. The lobster soup, which should have been a starter on New Year's Eve, was instead a main course in the new year. Very tasty and hearty, with lobster meat, roe, cabbage and filleted tomatoes.

During one of our daily walks we indulged and ordered a sushi in Västermalsgallerian. Soooo good!

When we were at Djurgården, we had to order lunch there instead. It was the dish of the day (spaghetti with meat sauce) at the Viking Museum. We rarely eat pasta, so it was good for variety!

Peter has also spent hours watching recipe videos online, including being inspired to cook more Asian food. After he bought Asian spices and sauces, we had our first dinner with an Asian touch: teriyaki salmon with rice, mushrooms, spring onions and pak choi. Very tasty!

Very many lobsters

This week we also took the commuter train to the suburbs to pick up a bucket of ten (!) fresh lobsters from an ICA store. A relative had called in the lobsters in an auction, but now the whole family was sick and could neither pick up nor take care of the lobsters.

But how would we get ten lobsters? We had to clean out the freezer, pack lobsters and freeze them. Now we just hope our relatives get better soon!

Best this week

Even though we have mostly been home this week, it feels like the year has started quite well. We have managed to get a lot of work done and we have cleaned and fixed a bit in the kitchen at home, to be ready for new cooking experiments.

It doesn't always have to be such big things that make you feel satisfied, does it? And you, what can you highlight as positive from the first week of the year?

The week ahead

We will still be at home in Stockholm. Here at freedomtravel.se you can expect more reports on Stockholm museums. I'm also finalising a city guide to a major Swedish city and Peter is finalising a few more master lists, similar to those of castle and castle ruins which we published last weekend. Don't miss it!
