New Viking Glory heading from China to the Baltic Sea

Viking Line's new flagship, the passenger ship Viking Glory, started its journey on 28 December from Xiamen in China towards its home port of Turku. The ship flies the Finnish flag and the route is via well-known shipping lanes: after crossing the Indian Ocean, Viking Glory moves to the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal and after passing Gibraltar it turns north via the Danish straits. The ship's average cruising speed is 16 knots and the return journey takes just under five weeks. You can follow Viking Glory's journey home on social media.

Few people know about the possibility of choosing more sustainable hotels when travelling.

Many people are aware that they can choose more sustainable options at the supermarket, but according to a new survey by NOVUS, commissioned by TUI, few know that the same principle applies when choosing a hotel. 70 per cent are not aware of the possibility to book more sustainable hotels. TUI is now launching Care Travel, a label that makes it easier to make sustainable choices. When booking a hotel with the label Care Travel means that the hotel is sustainability certified and that hotel stays, flights and transfers are carbon offset.

  • Foodprints - an interactive exhibition on how our food choices affect us and our future (opening in autumn 2022).
  • Bar nights at Tekniska - The success of themed evenings with bar hopping, board games, performances, author talks and quizzes continues.

Ester Blenda! enters Kalmar Castle

On 31 March 2022, this year's seasonal exhibition will open at the Kalmar Castle. This time, visitors can meet a strong woman with an exciting story in the exhibition. Ester Blenda!. Ester Blenda Nordström was a star reporter, wallflower maid, adventurer and traveller. Dressed in motorbike clothes and with a gun in her handbag, she broke the early 20th century norms of what women were expected to do. The exhibition is on display daily from 31 March to 6 November 2022.

Reflection of the week

We have followed the construction of Viking Glory, and it will be really exciting to see the ship for real! Incidentally, we have a plan to try to visit Hamburg fairly soon, when it is possible with regard to the pandemic. We look forward to that!
