640,000 passengers flew with Norwegian in February

Norwegian's traffic figures for February show that the number of passengers remained stable in the second month of the year. 640 000 flew with the company and the load factor was over 81 per cent. In February, ticket sales reached the highest level since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020. In February, Norway and many other European countries removed entry rules and other restrictions related to the pandemic. In the summer programme, 280 routes to 38 destinations are planned.

Reduced but expected February statistics for mobile homes

The number of registered mobile homes shows a large decrease compared to February 2021, reports the National Association of the Caravan Industry. However, the decrease in numbers is expected. The month of February a year ago, many "tax registrations" were made, which meant that the vehicles were put on before the new WLTP rules were introduced, for more favourable taxation. "It is therefore not entirely accurate to compare this year's numbers with those of a year ago", says Lars-Erik Hörmander, Chairman of the Swedish Caravan Industry Association.

  • Caravan registrations for February 2022: 100 (corresponding figure for 2021: 110)
  • Motorhome registrations for February 2022: 128 (corresponding figure for 2021: 207)

Baptism with unique champagne to bring good luck to Viking Glory

This week, Viking Line's new flagship Viking Glory was christened in Turku harbour. According to tradition, a bottle of champagne, produced in collaboration with the Piper-Heidsieck champagne house, was smashed against the ship's hull to ensure that she would sail safely, which Swedish jewellery designer Isabel Lennse had the honour of doing. A piece of Glory jewellery has also been created by goldsmith Maria Karlström, which will be sold on board. The christening was the culmination of a long-standing project. The price of the ship is around 225 million euros, which is over two billion Swedish kronor.

Ölandsbron celebrates 50 years with photo exhibition at Kalmar Castle

This year marks 50 years since Sweden's longest bridge was inaugurated, a bridge that in itself was groundbreaking and changed the landscape, and Öland and the Kalmar region, forever. This is being recognised with a photo exhibition at the Kalmar Castle. The photographs were taken by press photographer Åke Håkansson, who is now 89 years old. The reportage pictures give an in-depth insight into the history of the bridge and offer a reflection on the bridge's influence. The exhibition opens on 30 April and runs until 6 November.

iHusbil is a new non-profit association for Swedish motorhome owners.

The iHusbil association was formed two months ago by a group of motorhome enthusiasts with long experience of active work in other motorhome clubs. "There has been a lack of an organisation that looks after the interests of the more than 100 000 Swedish motorhome owners, pushes our issues in the public debate and seeks to positively influence our leisure interest", says Jan Ek, chairman of iHusbil. So far, 200 members have found the organisation. The forum is constantly evolving and will include a knowledge library, reviews and maps. The forum can be found at forum.ihusbil.se.

Reflection of the week

When the corona situation in the world finally started to feel a little better, the next horror came. This year will probably also be characterised by more "security" in travel. New motorhome association! Wow, now there's a whole bunch!?
