How are we travelling in 2022? Environmental threats, a pandemic and war in Europe make the world feel more uncertain than it has for a long time. At the same time, life goes on and many of us will continue to travel, albeit perhaps a little differently. Here are some thoughts on travel trends in 2022.

Travel trends 2022
When we googled "travel trends 2022" we got a few different results, based on surveys from Booking.com, Amadeus and Apollo. The surveys are from the latter part of 2021, or early 2022.
We have looked at all the surveys and put together a number of headings that cover the content, as well as contributing our own thoughts. After all, the world situation has changed recently, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, impacting in many ways and making the future more uncertain.
Security
According to the studies, the traces of the pandemic remain, and it is not known whether new mutations or new restrictive rules will emerge. Moreover, a war has broken out in Europe and the world situation is more uncertain than it has been for a long time. Many people will choose destinations that they perceive as safe. This may involve choosing a safe tour operator, opting for a domestic holiday or travelling to countries that are close by or feel safe in some other way.
Dreams
The pandemic has been restricting travel for a long time and there is a desire to travel among many people. After spending a lot of time watching TV shows and films, some have started to dream of seeing the places on the screen in real life. Some have also been able to save more money than usual and are considering booking an extra luxurious trip. In addition, it has become relatively common to borrow money to travelalthough at the same time many are concerned about the global economic situation.
Health
After years of limited opportunities, many people have reflected on how important travelling can be for health. Now people want to make trips that make them feel good. This can be about taking a proper break from the home office, finding peace and quiet in nature or booking trips with sports activities or yoga.
Here and now
A long period of pandemic has made people want to try to enjoy the moment and capture the day in a different way. It is the small experiences in each moment that are important. You won't plan as carefully, or as far in advance, but take it as it comes.
Sustainability and responsibility
Many people want to take responsibility for our shared world and contribute to its improvement. Interest in ecotourism is growing and more people are choosing tour operators who take responsibility for both environmental and social sustainability. They also want to help support the local communities they visit.
The social meeting
Team and Zoom meetings are all very well, but during the pandemic, many people have longed to meet in real life. When physical meetings are possible, people want to take the opportunity to travel with family or friends, or to do business. Some are even hoping for a holiday fling.

Of course, it feels a little unsafe to travel outside the Nordic countries right now. We are staying in Sweden this summer. But I recognise the longing of wanting to meet, for real! We finally dare to hug our loved ones. I hope to meet friends more this spring!
To meet in the small, simple, unpretentious.

We have also relaxed a bit in relation to the virus. And maybe that's why we got infected now? But hopefully three vaccinations make you less sick ... And agree with you, to meet in the small, does not have to be so pretentious, maybe we have learned from this! 🙂

Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark are perennial dream destinations. Southern Sweden and Denmark are the best candidates. Of course, like everyone else, I dream of a united Europe and, by extension, the USA. But for myself, it is not only the war (although it is reason enough) that stops but also the fear of a new covid virus. I also need to think about the economy and cannot rush off on expensive trips anyway (it would never occur to me to borrow money to travel). Your scouting thus fits quite well with my thinking!

There is certainly a lot to see in our neighbourhood! We are among those who have discovered Sweden in recent years, and could easily travel more here, although we like to alternate with trips abroad.
