From Enköping to Mariestad - second leg of the journey

We have just started a four-month motorhome trip in Sweden and Europe, and the second leg went from Enköping to Mariestad. This day offered wonderful sunshine, spring warmth, Easter coffee with friends and a new pleasant acquaintance, in the form of the small town of Mariestad.

Enköping - with Easter coffee with blog friends

The campervan trip started off rather badly with a... broken water tap in the bathroom and water leaks. All the more pleasant to wake up the next morning and read all the comments with wise tips and cheers.

A couple of blog friends, from the blog Good for the soul, lives in the area and wondered if we needed to borrow tools or maybe wanted to come by for a coffee. We didn't need tools right now, but we said yes to coffee!

There were some nice morning hours in the sun, but tasty Easter coffee and a lot of talk. Very nice to see you! Many thanks!

Villa Fannalund - and other Enköping attractions

We have never explored Enköping properly, so we took the opportunity to ask the locals about what to see. We learned that the beautiful parks are Enköping's pride and joy, but since the time of year may not do them justice, we'll have to come back.

We did check out Villa Fannalund, where inventor Johan Petter Johansson once lived. Johansson patented a long list of inventions during his lifetime, the wrench being the most revolutionary. If we understand correctly, the Bahco museum will open in Enköping later this spring, where you can learn more.

The municipality also includes the beautiful Grönsöö Castlewhich we visited last year.

From Enköping to Mariestad

For our part, it was time to continue the journey, and we headed towards Mariestadwhich is located on the eastern side of Lake Vänern. We were in these nooks and crannies when we drove along the Göta Canal in the summer of 2020, but we never made it here. So now it was time!

Arriving in Mariestad

Mariestad turned out to be a very motorhome-friendly town. At the harbour there are no less than two parking spaces for motorhomes, one of which is really big. Here you pay 220 SEK/day with electricity or 190 SEK/day without electricity, and get access to various services.

A short walk away there is also a completely free car park for motorhomes. Since we didn't think we needed service yet, we parked here with a small group of other motorhomes. We thought this was an excellent spot, with a nice view and walking distance to the centre.

Peter used Lake Vänern to clean the dinner fish, which we "caught" in the supermarket. Considering the smell, it is nice not to have to clean fish inside the motorhome ... What kind of fish is it? It's a redfish, and here you can find our recipe for redfish.

More about Mariestad coming soon! Please follow the continuation of the trip, which goes to Germany and the Czech Republic, here on freedomtravel.se, and on Instagram at @freedomtravelnews.
