Besedické skály
Besedické skály is one of the amazing areas of the Bohemian Paradise, in the north of the Czech Republic. The nature here can only be described with words like amazing and magical.
Besedické skály is located in the north of the Czech Republic, about ten kilometres northeast of Prague.
How to get to Besedické skály
Finding Besedické skály was easy by setting the location on the GPS. You then have to stand in a car park, a short distance from the start of the hike.
Hiking in Besedické skály
We walked up to the area where the hiking trails start, and started by following one of the trails. In hindsight, we should have done more research on how to find our way around (more on that below), but regardless, we had a great hike of about two hours!
The Besedické skály area is like an enchanted area in a fairy tale world. High cliffs and narrow passages meet here. Absolutely fantastic and at times almost unreal!
If you like hiking in a different and spectacular environment, this is for you!
We walked along high dramatic cliffs, through narrow passages and past deep caves.
When you try to take a photo of yourself next to one of the boulders, you realise how small you are ...
There are trails to follow, with clear signs, but sometimes it's easy to get lost because you're so fascinated by everything you see.
Sometimes something unexpected comes up. We walked past a war memorial and a small stream with ... small animals that seemed to be listening to a lecture.
How to find your way in Czech forests?
So, how do you go about finding your way around the Czech forests? There are often clear markings and plenty of signs. Despite this, we have sometimes struggled to find our way, but we have now learnt a few things that we can share with you. Firstly, there are colour markings on trails, which are the same throughout the Czech Republic:
- Red markings: Long-distance routes - the most strenuous ones
- Blue marking: Main joint
- Green marking: Local link
- Yellow marking: Shortcuts and shorter routes
Another tip is to read up beforehand, or take a map with you. There are often signs, but to understand the place names on the signs you need to know where the places are. Sometimes you have internet coverage in the forest, but sometimes it disappears. So bring a physical map with you!
You can also try downloading the Czechs' own favourite app, Mapy.cz, where you can also download offline maps.
Where can you camp with a motorhome or caravan?
There are several campsites in the area, and we stayed at camping Sedmihorky, which is a very well-run and nice campsite. Among other things, there is a nice swimming area, several food services and plenty of activities for children and young people.
