With Finnlines to Malmö - and finally LPG.

Then it was finally time to leave Germany and travel to Sweden. We took Finnlines from Travemünde to Malmö, and then we spent a few nice days in Malmö. We also had time to meet friends. Happy Friday!

With Finnlines from Travemünde to Malmö

When we started our trip in Germany, we travelled with the Finnlines Malmö - Travemünde. When we went home, it was the same trip, but in the opposite direction. We only booked a few days in advance and we were really lucky. There was only and single cabin available on the departure we wanted, and then it was fully booked for several days.

Time to say goodbye to Germany, where we have had many great experiences.

Since there was only one cabin left, we could not choose. It became a rather small cabin with bunk beds. On the other hand, you should mostly just sleep and shower in the cabin, so it worked great.

This time we chose to leave at 22:00 in the evening and arrive at 07:00 in the morning. Very comfortable! There was a late dinner before it was time to sleep. In the morning we had breakfast before it was time to leave. When you travel this way, the journey feels fast and smooth!

Also this time we booked electricity on board for the motorhome - a service that we really appreciate on board Finnlines ferries. That way you don't have to switch off the fridge.

By the way, did you know that you can also travel with Finnlines from Kapellskär outside of Stockholm to Naantali outside Turku? It's a route we might want to try at some point.

Gas at last!

What was the first thing we did when we arrived at the Centre? Malmö? We bought LPG of course! Unfortunately, there was no LPG at Bauhaus (and they did not even know when they would get LPG again) so it was expensive LPG at a petrol station. But what does it matter when you have been without LPG for 2-3 weeks. So nice to be a bit more self-sufficient again!

Crowded at the car park in Malmö

We then managed to grab a spot on the site in the Lagoon Marina. Interestingly, German motorhomes continued to pour in even after the site was full. They simply stood in double rows, so that it was packed.

They just knocked on the door of the motorhome in front and asked when they were planning to leave in the morning, so they could move in time ... This is not exactly an optimal solution from a fire point of view, but a result of the lack of parking spaces ...

Nice days in Malmö

We had some nice days in Malmö, which is a cosy city. The weather was great, and we had time for everything from parks and street art to different museums. Reports will come a little later!

Lovely meeting with "The Swedish Camel Rider"!

Then it was time to roll towards Gothenburg to meet Julia and Micke, also known as "The Swedish Camel Rider" (@the.swedish.camel.rider on Instagram). This adventurous couple has done a lot of fascinating travelling, including spending time in Tunisia with their camper van Snigel, where Micke trained and competed (!) as a camel rider.

This spring, we interviewed them, via video link, which resulted in a report in our "FREEDOMtravel Magazine" (click here to read the magazine digitally). Now we met for the first time "for real". Fantastic fun!

We spent many hours talking about travel and adventure, a barbecue dinner and local Gothenburg beer!

Best this week

Life is always up and down, and we like to try and focus on the positives. This week we're happy that we came on the Finnlines ferry, that we have LPG in the campervan and that it is at last was the meeting of the FREEDOM and Snail motorhomes!

Your turn ... what can you highlight as positive from your week?

The week ahead

In the coming week we will be travelling to the Swedish west coast. On freedomtravel.se we will continue to talk about Germany a little more. Hope you want to join us!
