Street Art in Malmö
The Artscape street art festival was founded in Malmö in 2014, resulting in a long line of murals created by artists from all over the world. Over time, the artworks have become more and more numerous, and you can find them both in the Old Town in central Malmö, and in the city's various suburbs.
We googled where we could find some of the works and went for a bike ride. Then we found much more than what we had originally googled! The tour resulted in a lot of photos of street art, as well as a guide for those who also want to discover Malmö's street art.
Map of Street Art in Malmö
Here you will find a map of street art in Malmö. The numbers on the map correspond to the numbers in the article, which describes the different artworks. We've made the map so that you can see the artworks in a convenient order. However, don't be surprised if you happen to come across even more works during your tour. There are plenty of murals in Malmö, and new ones are added from time to time.
1. Mural of Shalak and Smoky
First of all, we have to mention a mural that is a little bit different from the others, namely in Norra Hamnen in Malmö. The painting is the result of a collaboration between the Canadian artist Shalak and Smoky from Brazil. Really delicious!
Address: Bjurögatan 46 (Norra Hamnen)
2. Mural in the Caroli district
In the Caroli district of Malmö, you'll find a delicious painting that spans two walls. It's both jellyfish and spacey at the same time.
Address: Lilla Kvarngatan 12 (Caroli)
3. Magic Book by Natalia Rak
Polish artist Natalia Rak has painted "Magic Book", which depicts a girl reading a book, from which an octopus emerges. This is street art in Malmö that we like!
Address: Grynbodgatan 11 (Old Town)
4. Wall painting by Ola Kalnin
Right next to Natalia Rak's painting is a work by Malmö-based artist Ola Kalnin. You only have to turn your head to see this colourful wall.
Address: Grynbodgatan 13 (Old Town)
5. No Limit by Ester Eriksson
In the central part of Malmö you can also find a bunch of smaller paintings, on garage doors and the like. According to what we've read, some of these belong to an art project called "ArtMadeThis", which highlights female street art artists.
Address: Torggatan 2 (Old Town)
6. Fubbick by Karolina Wojcik
The same as above applies to the work "Fubbick" by Karolina Wojcik, if we understand it correctly.
Address: Kanalgatan 3 (Old Town)
7. Turnips by Emelie Schill
A smaller pink work on Gustav Adolfs Torg will also belong to #ArtMadeThis.
Address: Gustav Adolfs Torg 12 (Old Town)
8. Mural of Faith XLVII
In the centre of Malmö is a work of art by South African artist Liberty Du (Faith XLVII), who has graced cities around the world with her art. The work on Södra Tullgatan (see picture below) was created during the 2014 Artscape festival.
Address: Södra Tullgatan 4 (Old Town)
9. Wall painting of Phlegm
If you walk around a corner in central Malmö, you'll also find a really cool creation by Welsh artist Phlegm. We think it's really fun to use the windows and other details of the wall to develop the piece.
Address: Stenhuggaregatan 2 (Lugnet)
10. Wall painting with face
If you look up while strolling along the shopping street Södra Förstadsgatan, you can see even more street art in Malmö, in the form of a painting of a woman's face.
Address: Södra Förstadsgatan 13 (Old Town)
11. The girl with the fox by Julia Hallström
"The girl with the fox" is a small but beautiful work of art, which is easy to miss if you are not paying attention.
Address: Davidhallsgatan 10 (Davidshall)
12. Mural with green girl
On the same street as "The Girl with the Fox" there is also a garage door with a very green girl.
Address: Davidhallsgatan 24 (Davidshall)
13. Paintings in the tunnel
At Kaptensgatan in the Lugnet area there is a tunnel with a series of colourful paintings. A slightly different form of public art / street art in Malmö!
Address: Kaptensgatan (Lugnet)
14. Mural by Edmalito
On Monbijougatan in central Malmö you will find a mural by the artist Edmalito. A colourful wall that brightens up the neighbourhood!
Address: Monbijougatan 2
15. Wall painting on garage door
Not far from Edmalito's large mural, you'll find a smaller, but equally imaginative painting on a garage door.
Address: Friisgatan 13
16. Mural by Stinkfish
In the Möllevången area, Colombian artist Stinkfish has created two stunning murals. This one is one of our favourites among all the street art in Malmö!
Address: Södra Skolgatan 43 (Möllevången)
17. The parrot has landed by Leon
Another work that you will find in Möllevången, not far from the painting of Stinkfish, is the one called "The parrot has landed". Created by Leon, the work runs over two walls and is really nice.
Address: Bergsgatan 37 (Möllevången)
18. Street art in Malmö at Graffiti Hangaren
An interesting place when it comes to street art in Malmö is what is called "Hangaren". This is a large building filled with street art on the inside. Apparently the paintings are occasionally shown to the public, but finding opening hours proved very difficult, despite calling the municipality and asking people in the area. Even if the Hangar is closed, however, it's worth a visit. There are lots of street art on the outside.
Address: Ystadsgatan 53 (Annelund)
19. Wall paintings in the Northern Sofielund
There is some fine street art in the northern part of Sofielund. On Rolfsgatan you can check out some nice little paintings on a number of garage doors.
Address: Rolfsgatan 7 (North Sofield)
20. Wall painting with book
A mural we found by chance shows a book, and a dragon winding its way across it. Fittingly, you'll find the work on Bokgatan.
Address: Bokgatan
21. The natural cloud
A fascinating and different place in the area of Northern Sofielund is the place called "Naturmolnet". This is a plot of land without houses, where benches, plantings and street art have grown up instead.
Address: Palmgatan 28 (North Sofield)
22. Wall painting by Ola Kalnin
Another painting by Malmö artist Ola Kalnin was found at the junction of Lönngatan and Nobelvägen.
Address: Intersection Lönngatan / Nobelvägen
23. Wall painting in Seved
In the area called Seved there are several nice and creative murals. One of these can be found at Rasmusgatan 7. And don't miss the colourful chimney just behind it.
Address: Rasmusgatan 7 (Seved)
24. Two walls of street art in Seved
The painting that fascinated us most in Seved is the one on the corner of Rasmusgatan 15 and Sofia Street. The painting covers two sides of a large house, and is really colourful and delicious. If we understand correctly, this house is also painted by Malmö artist Ola Kalnin.
Address: Rasmusgatan 15 / Sofiagatan (Seved)
25. Street art in Malmö at Best Food Holma
If you continue to the Holma area, you will also find some street art. For example, the back of "Best Food Holma" is covered by a long work.
Adess: Hyacinth Street 38 (Holma)
26. Trollet by Smug One
One of the paintings that makes a detour to Holma worthwhile is "The Troll" by Australian artist Sam Bates, often called Smug One. The work covers the short side of a five-storey building and took five days to paint (see picture below).
Address: Snödroppsgatan 3 (Holma)
27. Last Embrace Before Departure by D*Face
In the same area as the "Troll" is the pop-art inspired work "Last Embrace Before Departure" by British artist D*Face.
Address: Snödroppsgatan 26 (Holma)
Street art in Malmö - in the form of small figures
Another artist who has contributed to the decoration of Malmö - albeit discreetly - is Isaac Cordal from Spain. His installation shows tiny figures placed in unlikely places, such as balancing on a cable by the wall of a house. We looked for two of them, but we can say that you have to look long and hard to find them. The figures should be at the following addresses:
- Stapelbäddsgatan 3
- Stora varvsgatan 14
- Ankargripsgatan 3 / Nordenskiöldsgatan
- Långgårdsgatan 3
- Grynbodsgatan 11
- Stora Nygatan 33
- Malmborgsgatan 3
- The River Walk
- Monbijou car park
- Kristianstadsgatan 7
- West Canal Street 4
- Möllevångsgatan 40

I have two daughters in Malmö, but have never seen any of the art you talk about. Embarrassing but true. Now I won't get there any more, so I'll have to rejoice in your pictures and stories🥰

After all, what you have close at hand is often easy to miss. It's something we really recognise! The pandemic made us a little better at looking around our home city of Stockholm, but before that we were bad at it 😉 We're glad to hear you appreciate our reports! 🙂

How delicious Street Art! It's almost impossible to pick a favourite. Last Sunday we went to Borås to visit Abecita, but we didn't have time to look at their Street Art. Anyway, we took a map so now we'll try to get a visit there first.
Sure, it's cool when they use windows, doors and other objects in their art, like in one of the pictures.

Oh we really liked Abecita! Great art and such a nice couple running the place! 🙂

Thank you very much for your guide through Malmö, we enjoyed it very much during our visit. Unfortunately, the troll and the mural at best food Holma (no. 25 and 26) had been painted over with white paint.
Great map so we knew roughly where the paintings were, although some were slightly off.
