We have done a hike in Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic, which was incredibly beautiful. This area has some amazing rock formations and the place where we hiked, at Jetřichovice, has dramatic views.

Hiking in Bohemian Switzerland
Bohemian Switzerland is a large national park located in the northern part of the Czech Republic, towards the border with Germany. The nature reserve continues in Germany, where it is called Saxon Switzerland.
The Bohemian Switzerland hike we did started in Jetřichovice, which is about two kilometres northeast of the city of Děčín, and about 12 kilometres north of the capital city Prague.
Start in Jetřichovice
We drove the camper to Jetřichovice and parked in the "Placené parkoviště" car park. From here it was only a short distance to the forest, where we started our hike. We waited out the heaviest rain and then set off ...
We had received a map at the campsite Kemp Děčín which we followed. If you want to do the same hike, we suggest that right where the forest starts, you should choose the slightly wider footpath that goes to the left, instead of going straight into the forest.
Hiking in Bohemian Switzerland
It had rained heavily and was very wet in the forest when we started hiking. On the other hand, it almost made the beautiful green colours even greener.
After a long series of stone steps up (as usual in these mountains) we could enjoy flat ground, beautiful deciduous forest and dramatic rock formations.
From time to time along the walk you will yet more stairs, especially if you want to get to one of the viewpoints. And you do!
How sweaty we got! But it was worth it! When you suddenly stand on one of the viewpoints, the views are absolutely fantastic. You can stand here for a long time and just look out over the plains.
Up to one of the peaks
On several of the peaks there are viewpoints, and as we understood it, these places have previously served as lookout towers, to scout for incipient forest fires. At one of the sites, a new and very nice viewpoint has been built a few years ago, and we wanted to visit it!
It was, of course, a long series of stairs up. We both walked together almost all the way. The last staircase I (Helena, afraid of heights) skipped, because I thought it was too high and steep. But it was of course a bit of a shame, because it was a fantastic view Peter got up there ...!
What an incredibly nice viewing tower they built at the top! And what a view!
In every direction you can look out over the amazing nature of Bohemian Switzerland.

Where can you camp with a motorhome or caravan?
So, where can you stay with a motorhome or caravan? We stood on Kemp Děčínand can highly recommend this place! This is a city campsite with a relaxed atmosphere, right in the centre of Děčín.
Sven, who runs the place, doesn't want it to be just a campsite, but perhaps primarily a starting point for various adventures. Here you can hire bikes or canoes, or go on adventures with climbing, rafting, scooters, boat trips and all sorts of other things. The campsite, and their company Active Point, helps with all the arrangements.
There is also a small bar and restaurant. When we got here, our LPG had just run out, and we hadn't yet had time to buy an electric hob, so we ate all our meals here. We were super happy with everything from breakfast to dinner, and even had the opportunity to do a beer tasting of local beers!
More to see and do in the neighbourhood
There is much more to see and do in the neighbourhood, and many of these adventures can be done from Kemp Děčín. For example, we can recommend taking a boat trip along the Elbe River and discovering Tisa in the Czech Republic, where there is great hiking and where scenes for Narnia have been filmed. In the north of the Czech Republic, we can also suggest that discover the Crystal Valley, which offers glass art, nature and breweries.

What nature! I was in the area around Bastei in Saxon Switzerland last autumn and already then we said that we must continue across the border to the Czech Republic. Then we had limited time so these areas are high, high up on the wish list!

Really fantastic nature! I remember you were at Bastei and we have also been there now (but haven't had time to write about it), fantastic! But, really worth continuing over to the Czech side! Many nice places to visit there!

Wow, what a view!
Haven't heard of this part of the country, but can't be that far from the road between Dresden and Prague, which I have travelled many times.
Happy Sunday!

The Czech Republic seems to have a lot to visit. We have actually been to Tiske steny in Tisá. Fantastic rocks and formations. Today I'm not sure I would have been able to walk around, but really worth seeing. Many nice places you visited. We also visited a glass kingdom, Arnbruck in Germany, but it was only by sheer luck we ended up there, as we were looking for a night spot when we left the Czech Republic. So many nice places to visit.

What exciting nature! Oh what (un)voluntary exercise you got. This year there was probably no need for a gym;-) Great fun with beer tasting. Hope you didn't have to spit the beer, what a waste otherwise;-)
PS. Notice that you have "reversed roles" when it comes to carrying a backpack. in 99 per cent of the cases it is the men who do it;-) DS.

Nature is amazing! And no, no spitting 😉 Interesting reflection with the backpack! I (Helena) wear it almost always. Do not know why, but think it is because I am the one who is the most about me and around me with the fact that we should have water and other things 😉
