Vemdalen's hiking trails to be upgraded for millions
The destination Vemdalen has more than doubled the number of commercial guest nights in 10 years from 380,000 to nearly 850,000. The increase in nature tourism in general and a sharp increase during the pandemic pose challenges for maintaining attractive and sustainable trails in the mountains and for protecting nature in the long term. The destination is now equipping the trails. The project has a total budget of SEK 3 million and runs until 31 October 2023 and is financed primarily by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth and Region Jämtland/Härjedalen.
Many foreign guests on the Göta Canal
This year, the international guests have returned to the Göta Canal with an answer. The number of foreign leisure boats has increased by 140 per cent through August compared to the year before the pandemic. Swedish boaters, on the other hand, have waited, which according to the Göta Canal can be explained by higher fuel prices and the general cost of living. All the more Swedes are choosing to visit the Göta Canal by land. The high season on the Göta Canal in 2022 is now over, but the post-season runs from 16 August to 30 September.

Reflection of the week
There are so many food events being organised around Sweden now in early autumn. What fun! It's also nice that many foreign visitors have found their way to the Göta Canal, but it's unfortunate if the high cost of fuel is going to stop Swedes from enjoying the canal ...
