MUMA Mural paintings on Orust - stories about women

MUMA Muralmålningar (Mural Modern Art) is an art project that empowers rural women in eastern Orust. Using murals on barn walls, their stories are told. So delicious! We made a round and checked out the artworks.

MUMA Mural paintings on Orust

MUMA Murals is an art project that explores the personal heritage of Orust. The project started in 2017 and has resulted in six (soon to be seven!) murals on barn walls around the island.

The project highlights the hidden and forgotten heritage and brings the personal stories to life. It is the women's stories that are told - and they are portrayed by contemporary female artists.

A tour to explore the MUMA Murals.

We really liked the idea and went on an art tour, with our campervan, to check out all the MUMA Murals. Here you can see photos of the artworks and a short presentation of the women portrayed. On site at the murals there are longer descriptions, both of the women and the artists.

We started from the Henån car park

More to see and do in the neighbourhood

When you are on Orust there is of course more to see and do. For example, it is nice to discover Mollösund, as well as Malö and Flatö. We can also recommend a wonderful boat trip to Gullholmen and Käring Island. In the neighbourhood of Tjörn you can also explore Dyrön and Skaftö, with Grundsund and Fiskebäckskil.
