Positive trend for tourism in Värmland
The preliminary figures published by Statistics Sweden show a positive trend for the tourism industry in Värmland. In June, Värmland's guest nights increased by 77 per cent compared to 2021, the fourth largest percentage increase in Sweden (after Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Uppsala). Most people who visit Värmland today are from Sweden and neighbouring European countries. Neighbouring Norway is the largest target group of foreign visitors. Campsites accounted for 50 per cent of all overnight stays in Värmland in June.
New tourism record in Trelleborg
With Statistics Sweden's official accommodation statistics having recently published figures for the first half of 2022, the hospitality industry in Trelleborg celebrate a double success. The number of guest nights increased by 45 per cent compared to 2021, and the proportion of foreign guest nights increased by 9 percentage points. During the first six months of the year, the largest number of foreign guests ever was reported, namely 10,537. The statistics mainly show Germans, Danes, Dutch, Swiss, Austrians and Norwegians.
Record turnover in July for First Camp
First Camp, Scandinavia's largest camping chain, reports a record turnover in July. The group's total turnover increased by 17 per cent compared to the same month in 2021. The five destinations with the highest turnover in July were:
- Jesperhus Feriepark, Denmark

SkiStar invests an additional 67 MSEK in the summer season
SkiStar's investment in the new Stockholm Hammarbybacken has been a success with a climbing park, Mountain Coaster and Mountain Tube. In September, SummerSki opens - Northern Europe's largest summer skiing on artificial grass. With the additional investment of 67 MSEK, a total investment of 622 MSEK is made. This season there are still opportunities for mountain biking, lift-assisted hiking, padel or visits to the climbing park. A number of places are also left at various camps such as the Livsnjutarweekend 25-28 August in Sälen.
More people are flying - but not as many as before the pandemic
More than 2.8 million passengers flew from Swedavia's airports in July, which is twice as many compared to the same period in 2021, according to TT. Almost 2.3 million were international passengers, which is an increase of 123 per cent compared to last year. However, Swedavia has significantly fewer international travellers now compared to before the pandemic. In July, they had 22 per cent fewer such passengers compared to the same month in 2019.
Lots of floating fairs
It is finally time for Sweboat's floating boat fairs, which are now being organised for the first time since 2019. There will be no less than three fine boat fairs with a wide range of content from the industry, promises Malin Troberg Lindén, who is responsible for the fairs at Sweboat. The fairs are organised in Marstrand, Ellös on Orust and in Gustavsbergand both news and activities are promised. Here are the fairs:
- Orust Sailboat Show with Open Shipyard, Ellös on 26-28 August, orustsailboatshow.se
- Marstrand Motorboat Show, Marstrand on 26-28 August, marstrandmotorboatshow.se
- Everything on the lake in Gustavsberg 2-4 September, alltpasjon.se
Reflection of the week
Although it is now possible to travel again (and many people are also travelling abroad), the increased interest in Sweden seems to be here to stay - at least for a while.
