Home from Elmia - reflections and new plans

We are back from the Elmia fair again. It was really nice that the fair started again! Elmia is a fantastic meeting place for the industry - both for entrepreneurs and campers. We also had the opportunity to reflect a little, both on the fair and our own business ...

Elmia exhibition - business, meetings and parties

This year's version of the Elmia fair was slightly smaller than it had been at its peak, partly because the Hymer Group dropped out. This meant that the tent was cancelled, and the exhibitors who used to stand in the tent now moved into the halls. MenDespite this, we have to say that the fair felt big and there were lots of people there. Very fun!

One of the most fun things at Elmia is meeting old and new friends. We met partners, journalists, bloggers, readers, motorhome friends and all sorts of others. We forgot to take pictures of most of them because it was so busy, but Micke and Julia, from @the.swedish.camel.rider on Instagram, got caught on camera.

We interviewed Micke and Julia before an article in our summer magazineAfter that, we got to know this lovely couple more and more, and now they came to hang out with us at our stand. Very funny!

We also partied at the Oktoberfest together, and they were prepped with both clothes and experience from the real thing. Oktoberfest in Munich. Fun!

Some reflections - and a bit of a change of path ...

During the pandemic, we started a web shopand we also started developing our own products with a motorhome and caravan theme together with the Swedish company Pufz. It was fun and challenging to get into something new, and we thought the shop was a nice addition to our website.

MenI don't think we could have anticipated the amount of work involved, or the costs involved. Now that we were at the fair, we also found that the focus shifted from what we wanted to talk about - travelling and camping - to products.

We have now taken the decision to continue the online shop, but to stop developing, purchasing, storing, shipping and selling at fairs. We will only have an online shop with goods distributed by others. This won't be an important business for us financially, but it can be nice and fun to collect products that we like!

At trade fairs? Then we want to talk about travelling and motorhomes/caravans as well as give lectures, hand out magazines and talk about our digital magazine.

The fine the key rings will still be available in our online shop

More fairs to come!

We have several fairs going on right now. First, we are going to visit the Bürstner Club's annual meeting (where we will have products with us, as agreed) and then we are aiming at Senior Fair in Stockholm 4-6 October. This fair is (in the absence of a real travel fair) Sweden's largest travel fair for travellers.

We will be giving lectures (on travel trends and destinations) and we will also have a stand, where we will hand out our magazine, have raffles and talk about travel.
