Castle weekend in Sweden
Perhaps one of the most enjoyable things to do in the autumn in Sweden is to get away for a castle weekend. There are many castles in Sweden and you can't stay at all of them, but quite a few offer hotels and various weekend packages.
1. Södertuna Castle, Södermanland.
Södertuna Castle is beautifully situated by Frösjön in Södermanland. People come here to treat themselves to a weekend at the castle hotel or for an afternoon tea. Perhaps you want to stroll through the English park at the same time.
The hotel has five castle suites and 64 double rooms, and guests can book weekend packages with enticing names like "Romantic Weekend" or "Gourmet Weekend". Guests can also enjoy a relaxation area with a sauna, hot tub and swimming pool.
2. Bäckaskog Castle, Skåne
Monks lived at Bäckaskog as early as the 13th century, and in the 16th century the monastery was converted into a fortified castle. Today the castle serves as a hotel and conference centre, and various parties and events are organised here.
When staying at Bäckaskog, you can choose between several different accommodation options - the Castle, Klostergården, Karl XV's Inn, Möllan and Humlehuset. There are also different packages, such as the Bäckaskog Package and the Little Castle Package.
3. Görvälns castle, Uppland
Görväln Castle and Görväln Nature Reserve are located in Järfälla municipality, north-west of Stockholm. The castle is currently run as a hotel and restaurant, and the hotel has a total of 45 hotel rooms and various facilities for meetings and conferences.
You can book different packages, such as Gourmet Weekend or Mini Vacay. While here, you can also take the opportunity to discover the castle park, with its sculpture park, and the nature reserve, where you will also find the ancient castle of Gåseborg.
4. Teleborg Castle, Småland
Teleborg Castle is a beautiful fairytale castle just outside of Växjö. Count Fredrik Bonde of Björnö built Teleborg Castle in the late 19th century, and the impressive building was completed in 1900. Today the castle serves as a hotel and restaurant.
The rooms in the castle are incredibly beautiful, and for your castle weekend you can choose from single rooms, double rooms, suites or perhaps accommodation in the tower room. There are also different packages, such as the Small and Large Castle Package and the Heart Package. Don't miss out on a walk in the beautiful castle park.
5. Öster Malma Castle, Södermanland.
Öster Malma castle is a fine little white estate in the Nyköping municipality. There is a lot about hunting and wildlife here, whether you want to hunt yourself, learn more about the animals in the castle's "Wildlife Park", buy game meat in the farm shop or perhaps enjoy wild dishes at one of Öster Malma's buffets.
Just a short walk from the castle is a hotel with 33 cosy rooms. If you want, you can book a castle weekend or a castle weekend with theatre. Whichever package you book, you can count on game meat on the menu.
6. Noors slott, Uppland
Noor Castle is a wooden Carolingian castle in Knivsta, Uppland. It may be a very small and perhaps unassuming castle, but the ground has been trampled by important people such as Karl XI, Verner von Heidenstam and Steve Jobs. Once upon a time there was also an impressively grand baroque garden.
Today, Noor Castle is primarily a castle you visit for parties, weddings, conferences or perhaps a cosy castle weekend. How about a classic castle weekend, Christmas weekend, bubble weekend or yoga weekend? The castle has a luxurious outdoor tent and a relaxation area with a sauna and jacuzzi.
7. Häringe Castle, Södermanland
Häringe Castle is located just south of Stockholm and is a castle you visit for wonderful weekend packages, luxurious dinners and lazy days in the castle pool. You can book a weekend stay at Häringe or go for a more spooky package, such as a paranormal weekend, magic evening or castle murder, where actors invite you to solve a castle murder.
The restaurant serves delicious dinners with tantalising dishes. Guests can also stroll through the castle garden, which is filled with exotic statues. Many different activities are also organised, such as a sauna and bowling.

Many wine-related activities are organised, such as wine tastings, summer parties, castle weekends with wine packages and Italian wine weekends. The hotel rooms are also named after different wine varieties such as NegroAmaro, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. At the back of the castle is a stunningly beautiful baroque garden.

More tips for a castle weekend in Sweden?
Have you ever had the chance to enjoy a castle weekend in Sweden? Which castle did you stay at? Is there a Swedish castle hotel you can recommend?
Only British says:
I recommend Gränsö Castle in Västervik. There you do not live in the castle ruin but in the hotel annex but it is very nice rooms, especially the individual ones down to the water. There is a spa with an infinity pool down to the bay and behind the castle there are walking paths in a fantastic oak forest and archipelago environment with cliffs and beaches. Eating is good and local in the castle, including breakfast.
