Swedish Skånevägen
Svenska Skånevägen is a FREEDOMtravel Theme Road that runs from Bäckaskog Castle in north-eastern Skåne to Söderåsen National Park in north-western Skåne. You can follow it from any direction, or pick your favourite part (your favourite spots) in the middle. This is an idea to make it easier for you to go on a little adventure. Happy travelling!

1. Bäckaskog Castle and Ivory Island
Monks lived here as early as the 13th century, and in the 16th century Bäckaskog was converted into a fortified castle. In the 19th century, the building served as a royal pleasure palace, and today it is a nice place to visit with a restaurant and a nice park. Nearby is the ferry to the island of Ivön, where you'll find the Ivö klack nature reserve and fossil-rich caves called Ugnsmunnarna.
2. Kristianstad on Svenska Skånevägen
Kristianstad is a pleasant town in Skåne that is worth visiting. In the centre of the city you will find Naturum Vattenriket, where you can learn more about animals and nature in the region. There are also many good restaurants. Try for example Borgmästargården, Kippers källare or Sotnosen.
3. Åhus
Åhus is a charming holiday resort filled with beautiful half-timbered houses. Here you can visit Absolut Home and take part in the "Absolut Home Experience" - a guided tour that ends with a workshop where you can make your own cocktail or mocktail. You can also visit the Åland coast, which is famous for its eel stalls and eel gills.
4. Stenshuvud National Park
Stenshuvud National Park is Sweden's southernmost national park and is located on the coast of Österlen. The area offers green deciduous forest, fine hiking trails, fantastic viewpoints and a lovely white sandy beach.

Kronovall Castle is a stunningly beautiful baroque castle in Österlen, Skåne. Today the castle functions as a wine castle, which means a great focus on wine. Many different activities related to wine are organised here, such as wine tastings, summer parties, castle weekends with wine packages and weekends with Italian wines.
6. Simrishamn on Swedish Skånevägen
Simrishamn is often called the capital of Österlen. This is a charming small town with cobbled streets and picturesque little houses. Here you can, for example, visit the Österlen Museum.
7. Glimmingehus along Svenska Skånevägen.
Glimmingehus is the best preserved medieval castle in the Nordic region. Built at the end of the 15th century, when Skåne belonged to Denmark, the castle was an exclusive residence with everything from modern heating solutions to aggressive defence. There is also a museum next to the castle. There are many interesting things to visit here.
8. Sandhammaren
Sandhammaren is a beautiful sandy beach with soft, fine-grained sand, which has repeatedly appeared on lists of Sweden's finest beaches. The area is also a nature reserve and the seabed outside is home to Sweden's largest ship graveyard.
9. Ales stones on Swedish Skånevägen
Ales stenar is Sweden's largest and best preserved ship setting. The stone formation sits magnificently on a hill above the village of Kåseberga on the south coast of Österlen. It is known that the settlement dates to sometime between 500 and 1000 AD, but much else remains a well-preserved mystery.
10. Ystad
Ystad is a quaint and charming little gem filled with half-timbered houses, cosy streets and lots of history. If you like the films about Kurt Wallander, you can take a trip in his footsteps. Of course, you can also sunbathe, swim and hang out in cosy cafés.
11. Smygehuk on Swedish Skåne
Smygehuk is Sweden's southernmost headland. There is a small harbour, some cosy little restaurants and beautiful nature. Above all, there are a number of signs that clearly show that you are at the southernmost point of Sweden.
12. Trelleborg
Sweden's southernmost city has become known as the 'Palm City', with its avenue lined with tall palm trees in true Miami style. One of the most interesting things to do in Trelleborg is to explore 'Trelleborgen'. The castle you can see today is a reconstruction of a third of the Viking castle that existed on the site in the 10th century.
13. Skanör-Falsterbo
Skanör-Falsterbo is located at the bottom of southeastern Skåne and offers fantastic sandy beaches with soft, fine-grained sand. There are also plenty of cosy little restaurants and stalls along the beaches.
14. Malmö on Swedish Skånevägen
Malmö is an exciting city with charming neighbourhoods, lovely beaches and interesting sights. For example, you can hang out on the cosy outdoor terraces at Lilla Torg, check out Malmöhus Castle or visit the Disgusting Food Museum. Malmö is also home to lots of cool street art.
15. Dalby Sønderskogs National Park
Dalby Söderskog is Europe's smallest national park. Located outside Lund, the nature area is beautiful - and very small. Close by you will find Skrylle nature reserve, Dalby church, Sweden's oldest building, and the popular swimming area at Dalby quarry.

Lund is a university town characterised by students, research and a youthful atmosphere. Here you can visit Lund Cathedral from the 12th century, with its crypt and astronomical clock. Don't miss the beautiful open-air museum Kulturen i Lund, full of historical buildings and exhibitions.
17. Jakriborg on Swedish Skånevägen
Jakriborg is a quiet residential area just south of Lund that looks like a cross between a medieval Hanseatic city and a modern fairytale town. Here, colourful houses with steep roofs, cobbled streets and signs for 'specerier' and 'charkuterier' meet.
18. landskrona
Landskrona is a pleasant town on the Öresund in north-west Skåne. Here you can visit Landskrona Castle, which tells the exciting history of the city. The most interesting thing is to go on a guided tour. If you want, you can also discover beautiful places like Borstahusen or Hilleshög's valleys.
19. vein along Svenska Skånevägen
Visiting Ven is a great day trip if you are in north-west Skåne. Cycling around this scenic island is fantastic. You can also visit the Tycho Brahe Museum, or perhaps try a Hven ice cream or whiskey from Spirit of Hven.
20. Råå
Råå is a charming old fishing village in southern Helsingborg. Today it is a picturesque coastal community with a boat harbour, beach, restaurants and camping. Nearby you can visit the Råån valley and nature reserve.
21. Helsingborg
Helsingborg is a lovely Scanian city with sandy beaches, cold bath houses and exciting historical sights. Here you can discover the view from Kärnan or enjoy the sun and swimming at Gröningen and Fria bad. In the area you will also find interesting places like Ramlösa brunnspark and Fredriksdal's museums and gardens.
22. Sofiero castle and gardens
Sofiero Castle and Castle Garden in Helsingborg offers a fantastic environment with intense greenery, splendid flower beds and a fabulous castle. Several royals have stayed here, and today both the castle and garden are open to the public.
23. Höganäs on Swedish Skånevägen
Located on the Kullen peninsula, Höganäs is a place that many people associate with ceramics. This pleasant coastal community also offers a nice harbour area. Nearby you can visit interesting places such as Krapperup Castle and the Nimis artwork on Svenska Skånevägen.
24. Skåne's vineyards
Swedish wine is on the rise and in Skåne you will find a number of fine vineyards that you can visit. For example, you can visit Kullaberg's vineyard, where you will find quality wines and a lovely wine bar as well as the possibility of both guided tours and wine tasting.
25. Kullaberg Nature Reserve
In Kullaberg Nature Reserve, Kullaberg rises with its steep cliffs down to the roaring sea. Here you can visit Kullens fyr, Naturum Kullaberg and a number of different caves. The most popular caves are Silvergrottan, Lahibiagrottan, Visitgrottan and Större Josefinelustgrottan.
26. Ängelholm
Ängelholm is a charming little town with the Rönneå river running through it. You can visit the beautiful Hembygdsparken, the Ängelholm Aviation Museum or the Railway Museum.
27. Hovs halls on Svenska Skånevägen
On the Bjäre Peninsula you will find the Bjäre Coast Nature Reserve. Here, high primeval mountains, such as Hovs Hallar and Knösen, rise and fall steeply into the sea. The landscape at Hovs Hovs Hallar is relatively barren and offers dramatic cliffs interspersed with pebble fields.
28. Båstad and Birgit Nilsson Museum
Båstad is the largest town on the Bjäre Peninsula and is associated with tennis and Tennis Week. Nearby is the Birgit Nilsson Museum, which tells the fascinating story of the farmer's daughter who became a world star.
29. Norrviken Gardens
Norrviken Gardens, located outside Båstad, was built in the late 19th century by gardening enthusiast Rudolf Abelin. Today this is a fantastic park with a range of fascinating style gardens, a restaurant and even activities for children. A wonderful destination!
30. Söderåsen National Park
Söderåsen National Park can be described as Sweden's southernmost wilderness. Here you can experience a landscape of rift valleys and intensely green deciduous forests. Don't miss a visit to Naturum Söderåsen.
